Default Is H22a1 to H23 vtec a direct swap

My engine just recently died, the mechanic suspects piston rings to be the issue.
My 2 options were a complete lower end rebuild or an engine swap.

I have a limited budget so the red top is out....
I think I'm going to go with the JDM H23 VTEC Blue top and also considering adding the 5 Speed T2T4 LSD Tranny too.... however I noticed that the gear ratios for 1st - 3rd are the same, 4th and 5th are different. My goal is to allow me to cruise at 70mph while being under 4K rpm.

My question is... is going from an H22a1 to the H23 VTEC a direct swap? Do I need a different ECU or wiring harness or should I have everything I need already?

Forgot to add... one of the websites im looking at has 2 different ECU types for the blue top... P13 and PDE. I have no idea what the difference is, so any insight to this would be helpful.

If you need more info, just ask.

Thanks

H22A4 - H23 VTEC swap:

-ignition coil
-oil pump
-crank sensors
-motor harness

No need for any extra wiring or special ecu. If you swapped these parts over, car would run normal.
It wont work well with A1 ecu so yes you need different ecu. A4 or you could also get chipped ecu (+tune).

Remember that your swap engine needs to be rebuilded also so its going to cost you more than just the price of the engine!

Well crap! Why do they boast about how many miles are on those engines when they need to be rebuilt anyway??

It's not what I wanted to hear.. but it's exactly what I needed to hear.

Thank you for that information... so I'm looking at a rebuild regardless.

they all have some wear (mileage could tell something about the piston rings) but basicly you need to replace all the seals and timing side anyway because dried seals cannot hold
