well i have a 97 auto lude, and something has happened with the transmission, and it wont reverse, every other gear works fine though. when you put it in reverse it just makes a loud scraping sound and doesnt move. the gear is obviously damaged. is this a serious and expensive repair? would it cost more to do it or should i just say forget it and just find another tranny and get it put it? input please

Autos usually cost more to fix anyway. What happened just before this problem showed up?

they sometimes do that randomly, try to force it in there and play with it, it will return to normal in a few days...

so i found out what happened to my car. my little brother decided to drive it, he finally fessed up. he was driving it and the car cut off (i needed a new battery) so instead of putting it into neutral and starting it back up..he put it into PARK. and there goes the reverse gear. i am so very very pissed. its going to cost a fortune

Replacement auto transmissions are a dime a dozen.. And cheap because no one wants them. Post in the WTB thread on the top of the page that your looking for a 5th Gen auto tranny, and search threw the for sale thread as well..
