Default indecisive about Skunk2 cams

Guys I'm prepping up for an N/A build and I've been searching high and low.

I dont know what to go for at all. Either Tuner Stage 2, Pro Stage 1 or Pro Stage 2.

This car is my summer DD and 2-3 track days.

It will be an 89mm bored out H22 with either 11.5:1 or 12:1 compression pistons.
P&P head
Valvetrain will be rebuilt completely as well.

I know the pro stage 2 will offer the most power but I have issues with this:

1) There doesnt seem to be "pro series" valvetrain for the h22 like they require to upgrade to.
2) How rough/loud is the idle. I dont want idle & low speed driving to sound intensely loud and rough.
3) Valvetrain wear and tear. Like I said DD, I want to keep reliability in check.

Let me know. greatly appreciated.

i hope that motor is sleeved.

if you are going to run 12.0 id go with the pro2's but your valvetrain is going to be loud no matter what. im running the pro1 cams and it is pretty noisy. there is pro series valvetrain. as long as you set your idle kind of high it will be fine.

1.You should be able to find the skunk2 retainers/springs and valves on ebay.
2.There are a few youtube videos of skunk2 cams ideling.
3. I went n/a because it is more reliable than going turbo. There are a few guys out there with n/a set ups that have over 30 k miles.

My car is still being built, pretty similar to yours and i went with the pro 2's. What will you be using to tune the car?

lol at 89mm i dont think you have anymore FRM left.

it is noisy..... hmm.... even when tuned properlly?.

If its the case, I'll probably go with the tuner series where the idle/low speed driving is practically stock. But on the high end i think is just the same as the pro.

Well I go on the Skunk2 website, and there are none listed for H22. Just the tuner series valvesprings....

you will have to call them on the springs. they are only noisy when the car is at idle. while driving i cant hear the difference there is so much other stuff going on.

you do realize those sleeves are not iron and will not expand like they should with a forged piston.....at least from what ive seen and read.

Because of #2, you should go Tuner Stage 2 in my opinion. Due to the large non-vtec lobes on the Pro-Series cams you'll notice noticeably more valve-train noise at low speed driving with them. If you go Tuner 2's, you'll have killer power when in VTEC, but pretty stock sounding during idle/low speed.

I'll understand if the power wont be crazy down in low rpm in comparison to the pro 2's, but will I still be taking "some" advantage out of 11.5 compression pistons?

yes but the pro2's are going to be a little big for you application, especially if you have a stock head....as far as porting

I thought porting didn't really help that much on the h22's. I went with the pro2's, mild p&p. I just didn't see why to go with tuner series if i was already spending so much to build the valvetrain and the head work.
