H22 swap concerns

H22 swap concerns
Okay, here is my situation. Right now I am running an h23a1 stock except for ebay special intake, megan header, megan straight pipe replacing cat and an evo2 catback made for an h22. So I was wondering if i swap the h22, what will bolt on from the h23 (tranny, a/c, etc.) and what will I need new. Plus will i need a new ecu, and or redline tune for the vtec?? If so will I need a head rebuild?? Or really can I just buy the H22 from a buddy of mine (stock, 135k miles), buy an h22 header, cat and intake then have a shop swap it out for me then I am good to go??? I am so confused

question and has been covered thousands
Of times. You need to read the FAQ section. Buy a helms manual. And
Make a plan of what you need and can afford. If I were you and asked
This question, I would have a shop or someone with knowledge on this
Setup and Honda motors in general and have them do this for you.
The easy way. Buy the motor and everything you need todo the swap.
If you want to build a h22/h23 vtec have someone do it for you.

Re: H22 swap concerns
Well thanks for the feedback but I can't look at the FAQ section yet because I am a trial user. I just want to do the most painless swap possible yet no shortcuts. H22 with H23 tranny a/c and alternator would be great. But I don't know if the stock head could safely handle the redline tune since gears are longer in the h23 and if I didn't tune I would miss some of the vtec during a shift

^^^^ this is just to much for me to comprehend tonight.
Please save about 3500$ and take it to a reputable shop
With Honda knowledge. Tell them you want a h22 swap.
I don't want to discourage you but you have years of reading
and learning todo before your ready for this kind of adventure.

Re: H22 swap concerns
If you want to do a swap from H23 to H22, you will need another ecu regardless, as the P14 will not run vtec.
If you can, getting an OBD1 ecu that runs knock control and IAB function, and getting a proper tune for the engine would be best. Tuning for the best vtec powerband should be easy, and you can take a look at where your shifts fall on shift points, and depending on what you need, maybe drop vtec engagement a tad, as you may drop out on the 1-2 shift.
You can use your current tranny, but if you buy a full swap with a tranny, the gearing will be better suited for acceleration with the vtec engine, but you will have higher highway rpm generally.
