I feel a tad bit stupid asking this question but... how to you get the rotor out of the distributor? I've taken off the cap and im left with the plastic cover and the rotor... now what?!? Thanks

Ha I had this problem not too long ago. You have to hand crank the motor until the screw in the rotor is revealed from underneath the plastic cover. Hope this made sense, if not I could try again.

x2. You have to rotate the engine to TDC and then you will have access to the screw that holds the rotor onto the dizzy. Once you get the screw out, the rotor should just pull off.

is there a TDC for the "engine"? I thought it was just for each cylinder.

Ok I get that but I can't see anything b/c of that whole plastic piece. I can't take that off to see where the screw is b/c the rotor is in the way Again! Sorry for taking so long to reply.

The screw is in the rotor...

Take the 2 or 3 bolts off that are holding the dizzy to the head. You will be able to easier get to the screw.

on the shaft going to the rotor there is a set screw. That set screw needs to point in a direction that you can get a flat head screw driver into. I think it needs to point in the 12:00 to 3:00 oclock direction to make it easiest. Just keep cranking motor and checking if it stopped at a useful spot. Its a pain in the dick but ah well.

Pic? Some of the distributor electronics?

no electronics. its an actual black plastic piece that covers all of the electronics in the distributor...i have know idea how to post pics

I can't do that b/c the rotor has to come off first. I know I have to take the rotor off but with that plastic piece in the way I can't see when the screw is going to line up to unscrew it. This suckkss

Can you access the screw through the hole in the side of that cover? If not I would cut a hole on top of it to get to the screw.

That is an internal coil dizzy. The rotor is pointing opposite of the place in that plastic cover where the screw will appear. Just bump the starter until you see the screw. you will see it in the notch in the picture on the bottom.
EDIT: Actually you should be able to see it as it sits in the pics. Take it off the car and spin the rotor until you see the screw.

If you can't figure it out I have an internal coil dizzy lying around i will sell you. It has a good rotor and cap

holy crap, have none of you ever replaced the rotor before? take off the distributor, and then remove the rotor. just make sure that you are putting it back in right. it really only fits one way but somehow people manage to mess it up sometimes. just remove the whole distributor.
