External coil questions... testing...
so i been having some starting issues with my 97 prelude.. i have fuel, compression (165 at every cylinder), and spark (not sure how strong but it is there).. I tested my coil and the results were .1ohms for primary and 18.5 k ohms for the secondary .. so i figure the primary it out of spec so i borrow a coil from someone at work and the primary tested at the same resistance.. so i borrow a different one and it test the same also.. i installed the borrowed coil and the car started after some fighting (could be due to slight flooding)..
my main question is does anyone else get these crap readings with the primary coil???? i tested 4 coils and they all came up with .1 ohms but they work when installed in the car.....

That primary number is a bit low; stock spec is .64-.78 on the primary side and 14.4-21.6k on the secondary. Given that they are all reading the same for you, however, that is clearly not your problem. How recently have you replaced the plugs and wires and what plugs are you using? There could possibly be a problem with the ICM inside the distributor, but usually they either work or they don't, but are easy to test if everything else checks out.

yes, i tested the ICM (igniter) and it tested good.. i took it to autozone to be double sure.. i put the coil that has never been used before and is known to be good (but still tested at .1ohms) on the car and it started just fine.. i was thinking that something is wrong with the testing procedure with this coil.. it says to test between terminals A and C .. (the top to terminals).. I am and honda technician and this procedure is coming form their site.. we dont get to deal too much with this type of thing and even our senior tech thinks the book is wrong on this.. lol
