SH trans will not work in a Base under any circumstance. It's diff has a coaxial output for ATTS.

what kind of mods am i looking at, because ive aleady got the 2000 sh tranny and want to put it in my base, or would it be easier just to rebuild the current F seious tranny that i got in it right now.

why not get a transmission from a base model since you have....A BASE MODEL

The thing is that Ive already have the type sh tranny in my garage and at first didn't really pay attention to the differences https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif http://is.rely.net/1-92-83128-l-OQ7p...WduI005zmA.gif http://is.rely.net/1-92-83128-l-OQ7p...WduI005zmA.gif

Sell it and get the base tranny (the one without lipstick or a miracle bra)

Re: does sh tranny fit in base? (Kronn 98SH)

i also have a problem like this. I bought an h22a4 base block to put in my prelude SH. i just wanted to swap my motor out and use the same tranny. but now i assume this is not possible? should i buy a new tranny with an lsd to replace my sh tranny and atts?

Re: does sh tranny fit in base? (h22bluelude)

you can put a base transmission on an SH with an adaptor plate, not the other way around.

Re: does sh tranny fit in base? (98vtec)

but i thought that solturbob16sol said that with a few modifications i could make sh type transmission fit into my base model prelude?
I guess that the only best way to go now is to find an LSD tranny for base h22
this why i won't lose power and make thing a heck of alot easier,
Thanks alot for everyones input. http://is.rely.net/1-92-65076-l-NREc...mLFY3DaZnA.gif http://is.rely.net/1-92-65076-l-NREc...mLFY3DaZnA.gif
off to looking for another tranny with the few dollars that i got. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emhammer.gif

Re: does sh tranny fit in base? (AsianNikka374)

No,it will not. The the base model is h22A and SH is h22A4. The bolt patterns are different. My SH spun rod bearings,so I had to replace it with a yard engine. It would've been cheaper for me to buy an H22A,but it wouldn't have bolted to my trany,so I was left with no choice but to spend the extra for the H22A4. Have you already bought engine?

nahh mann, i dont got one. sometimes its just best to buy a whole car if your trying to buy just an engine. try to find a car that has been hit, ive seen 00 sh selling for about 3 thousand, good luck to u .

Re: does sh tranny fit in base? (AsianNikka374)

Well the thing is that i have a 01 base tranny but it grinds, i think its the synchos. And i always have a 00 sh tranny that i believe is good. iam thinking to which to casings over, but iam not 100% sure that the internals match exactly the same...
does anyone have any idea.. please help.. thanks in advance. http://is.rely.net/1-92-29998-l-1gbM...AmVuBW3hGg.gif http://is.rely.net/1-92-29998-l-1gbM...AmVuBW3hGg.gif http://is.rely.net/1-92-29998-l-1gbM...AmVuBW3hGg.gif http://is.rely.net/1-92-65076-l-NREc...mLFY3DaZnA.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

Re: does sh tranny fit in base?

i have an h22a4 but it is still a different block than the h22a4 sh so i believe my sh tranny would fit but i think it is missing some holes for the atts to bolt on.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by mateo801 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">The the base model is h22A and SH is h22A4. The bolt patterns are different. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Base model = H22A4
SH model = H22A4

But the bolt patterns are different, so you're at least half right.

Re: does sh tranny fit in base? (Kronn 98SH)

I ran into this same problem too, i bought a 2000 sh with a bad timing belt. I had a H22a4 base engine/trans and swapped it in, to find out my reverse was messed up. I took the base trans out and put the sh trans in. It bolts up no problem to the block but there is no way to bolt up the halfshaft because it goes further into the the diff in the trans to the holes dont line up on the block. Also there is no way to seal the axle to the trans because there is a bigger opening for the atts in the sh trans. I ended up having to fix my base trans. Another thing is you can not swap internals between base and sh trans's because of the different size diffs.

Re: does sh tranny fit in base? (richjr)

why is it that i can't just change the internals form the sh tranny to the base tranny to use the base tranny? i couldn't quite understand what u were saying.

AsianNikka374 10-09-2008 02:54 PM

Re: does sh tranny fit in base? (AsianNikka374)

also i ve read on https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=762014 that the internals are the same... so why can't i just switch out the casings, by the way i had the same problem in my base tranny... i wouldn't go into reverse https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif thanks alot in advance for you info

vinuneuro 10-09-2008 03:27 PM

Re: does sh tranny fit in base? (AsianNikka374)

Internals are not the same. You'd have to use the correct countershaft for the trans case you're using.

Re: does sh tranny fit in base? (AsianNikka374)

i dont know if the Sh internals would work with the Base diff. The problem i had with my trans was the outer casing was messed up and it wouldnt let the rod for the gear selector fully engage for the reverse. It had me clueless for like a week cus my trans would shift into reverse no prblem by hand with the outter case off and when i would put the outer case back on it would feel like it would go into reverse but the gears were still in neutral. i ended up paying $320 for a new outter case and its been fine ever since.

Re: does sh tranny fit in base? (richjr)

Also i forgot to say the sh diff is taller then the base so if you tried puting the Sh internals and diff into a base casing the case will not close because the diff is too tall.

I'm sorry but you are wrong. I have 2 97 Honda Prelude's. 1 is automatic and other is manual. Both base models and they both have a H22A4 not the H22A
