Ok Im new to H series. Ive got an H22A4 core with no transmission that the shop next door didnt want. I dont know the year or anything else about it. All I know is the timing belt went so Im going to rip it apart to see how much damage there is. If its good Im going to swap in into my civic and use the H2b adaptor plate. Now QSD says the ATTS motor will not work with the plate and B series transmission. How can I tell if I have the ATTS H22?

Does the kit work with the later model SH blocks?

Our adapter plate will bolt up to any H-series engine. However, the newer SH blocks used with the ATTS transmission were designed with a different block casting. The rear of the block is completely different and does not work with our B-series intermediate adapter. It is possible to do, but you will have to weld the core mounts onto the block. It's been done, and will work.

Ill take a picture right away and post it. I dont even know how the h22a1 and h22a4 block differ.

Well it looks like I do have the H22A4 base model then... So does the H22A4 use a distributor or CYP to adjust timing? The engine stamp says H22A4 so this is a 98+? Thanks

Oh ok so its 92-95 (obd1 gen 3), 96 (obd2 gen 4), 97+ (obd2 gen 5). Found the H22A4 has a distributor, they sell for about $170 on ebay (Distributor King).

H22a4: two versions- Base and SH
96 H22a1, usdm H22a4 (97-01): obd2- crank position sensor located at the oil pump
92-97: 50mm crank main journals
98-01: 55mm crank main journals

Cool, one more question. Can I tell what year the motor is by the VIN or something? Id really like to know regarding the mains.

Put the vin in carfax and it'll give you the year, make and model.
