Default The dealership is finally taking my oil consumption issue seriously...

For the last 40,000 miles or so, i have had to add between 2-4 quarts of oil in between changes - the dealership techs said it was normal in the Prelude. Finally, my service advisor noted that i have had some other problems that may have been caused by excessive oil consumption. (faulty plugs, bad O2 sensor, the obvious thick black crap on my bumper)

He seems to think the whole motor is going to be replaced.

New motor - $7,000
Installation - $??????

Cost of my extended warranty that will pay for it... $750

by the way, my warranty has already paid for itself 2 times.

I should know something in a few weeks. Hopefully, they either fix it, or replace the freakin' engine. (It has 91,000 miles)

When i use to use 5w30 motor oil, i burnt oil like crazy. But ever since ive switched over to 10w30, i dont burn no where near as much oil as before.

I have tried both, but they both seem to disappear as fast.

I am sticking w/ 5w30 during the consumption test they have me doing just so everything is legit. I am supposed to measure every 200 miles for 2 or 3 cycles and log how much oil i need to add.

I have 2 quarts in the trunk ready to be dumped in.

This sucks to know........My car always seems to be missing a lot of oil when it shouldn't too. I thought it was a leak, but no stufff on the driveway. And i do have some black stuff on the back of my car that appears.....
This means I have to replace my engine?? WTF?

Has this been happening since you purchased the car?

it's normal for engines to burn oil max allowable is 1000 miles per quart this for S2000 and Preludes that I know.

I disagree with it being normal, before my blower install my motor did not burn oil.

I agree that Preludes will naturally burn a decent bit of oil, and a quarter every 1000 miles sounds about right. I have not seen an H22 that DIDN'T burn oil! But yours sounds excessive, so I'd make sure they take care of the problem. It is the rings; I don't see why they would replace the entire motor over that.

My VTEC motor burns oil like crazy too, but it's my own damn fault for building it that way.
