Clutch engagement = squeaking?
 

Over the winter I started to notice (and it's hard to miss) a very intermittent metal-on- metal squeak when engaging the clutch in 1st from a stop. It only lasts for a half second as the clutch moves from fully disengage to fullly engaged. It happens maybe once or twice during an entire city drive.

Beyond that, the clutch seems to grip fine, and besides the tranny shifting pretty stiffly (yay cold?) it seems okay too. The car has 50k miles on it.

I've read alot about throwout bearings and input shaft bearings, but I'm not really sure if any of it applies to me. Has anyone run into this kind of stuff before?

It could be your throwout bearing. My 5th gen has been having the squeak when engaging 1st for the past 40k km (noticed it right after I bought it w/ only 26k km). I just learned to ignore it, because it's just a nuissance and nothing more. If/when it'll break, I'll worry about it.

Also, when it's cold, the Prelude trannies DO get very clunky. Nothing you can do about it either...

Same here. I have a squeak on my 6 puck disc. Prolly happens 2-3 a day. So, who cares - i think its just when I get lazy-footed. Its been doing it for a while now. Nothing's wrong with my clutch or anything.

the throwout bearing wont really make a squeak noise. if there isnt any grease on the inside of the bearing assembly where it slides on the shaft thingy that could squeak. sometimes your slave cylinder will squeak. and the joint where the clutch lever pivots.

mine will squeak too (stock clutch with around 70k on it).

Did you happen to mess around and "burn" the clutch? (drop the clutch only to have the rpms rise but no acceleration followed by a funny smell)

No...I abuse it once in awhile with a 4-5k rpm launch, but it's pretty much always worked for me.

Now that I think about it, it's really been awhile since I've really dogged on it. Snow tires + snow + Montreal potholes underneath said snow will really keep a driver inline https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

Sounds like the problem i had on my civic.

Take out the slave cyl pin and cleaned it really well. Then clean off the clutch lever/fork/w.e it's called. then use lots of white lithium grease and put it back in.

Fixed it right up for me. The clutch felt a lot smoother to me after that.

I have been having this squeak and all I did was some grease between the slave cylinder push rod and the release fork. Also a little on each master and slave push rod. So far it seems smoother with no squeak.

I think my clutch is getting a bit worn down, im gonna do the pedal adjustment for now until I get the time to do the whole clutch/flywheel/rear main seal job.
