Car bogging after mis-shift HELP!!!

To sum it up instead of throwing 4th i through 2 and red lined it for like 2 seconds. Everything felt fine after until i got to the red light and car on idle starts bogging. Closer inspection i lost 2 header to downpipe screws. I replaced it and still the bogging went to my mech and he check it out he said maybe the wires cuz they are burnt and ground on the side of the head. I tape it up and still same crap spark plugs are good and now i dont know wat it is. It always had the lil " honda valve tick" but i feel like it got worse or maybe thats me jumping into conclusions. Car feels normal at little higher then idle rev and no check engine light either. PLease help!

Bent valves. Next time put your hand on top of the shifter instead of shifting gangsta style...

so, if valves are bent, is it safe to drive and performance lost too?

if half your teeth were missing, would you be able to eat the same? i dont think so...get it checked out asap.

i agree you should get it check out asap...but when you drive can you notice a loss of power? Because, if your just ideling low and still have same power i doubt you have bent valves.

So what's your point? You've still got bent valves...

just get it checked out man!

You should take it to a different mechanic and
have a leakdown test performed, end of story.

Good luck https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/embeer.gif

hOndafienD 04 12-07-2004 04:08 PM

he shouldnt drive it...end of story....i wouldnt

prylwd 12-07-2004 08:32 PM

Bent valves definitly. I agree w/ hondafiend don't drive it.

Lude_Behavior_97 12-07-2004 08:50 PM

The infamous 4th to 2nd mis-shift strikes again. It is definitely going to be your valves, my bro did the same on his mis-shift, he bent all 8 exhaust valves. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

A.K.A "The Money-Shift" because it costs a lot to fix it. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif

Re: .. (AndyD)

you have bent valves. You wanted to know what would happen if you kept driving it. It depends on how damaged the valves are. If they are to the point where the end of the valve wants to snap off, its going to bounce around your combustion chamber, put a hole in your pistons, and most likely kill your cylinder walls. Stop driving your car now and tow it to a real mechanic and pull the head. Tell him that you money shifted the poor beast, then explain exactly what you did, and exactly what we are telling you.

Ok i know this isn't a lude but i own one and until the engine swap is done i am relying on my crappy civic. I broke the timing belt on my civic recently and since I've done the timing belt the same thing seems to happen with me. I know that breaking the timing belt is a good way to bend valves but when the car starts up it runs fine at first then after the car has been warmed up it gets a bad ping and the timing jumps like crazy (I know that it isn't the timing belt skipping teeth because i already checked that). I was thinking that it is a coil or distributor being that everything has broken on this poor abused (before i owned it) car. Sorry if this doesn't apply at all to this topic but considering every other question I've had about my Prelude has been answered using the search button i need to post something https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif .

Do compression and leakdown tests and they will tell you if your valves are involved.

Lude_Behavior_97 12-12-2004 06:40 PM

I did compression test i came up with 2x200, 185 and 175

RacingLude 12-12-2004 07:57 PM

Check you timing. I did the 4-2 shift one time during a race. The engine died at the end of the street and was real hard to start back up. When it did, it ran horrible. All my friends there told me that I bent the valves. It ended up being my timing. Some how I jumped my timing belt when I mis-shifted.

Also, did you press the gas pedal down all the way when you checked your compression?

hOndafienD 04 12-12-2004 07:59 PM

yeah its a good possibility that the belt could jumped a tooth....i would check that asap...
