Brake Caliper Removal?

I am changing out my brake pads and need to get the caliper off. The two bolts needed to come off are on there like no other. How do you get this off safely without stripping it. And are these the 2 bolts that need to come off or are there anymore? Thanks

Thomas

Ok.... yes those should be the only two that need to come off... I changed mine, and thats all there was too it... I dont think stripping them shoudl be a problem... My advice it to get a long hollow bar that will fit the wrench inside of it and use it... More torque... Yes, they do call them breaker bars in most cases... Its not for breaking it off, but breaking it free... Sometimes that heat causes that problem... Also, some good wd40 can assist you....

Soak them in PB blaster. Then get your 1/2 inch drive socket wrench on there and get a rubber mallet. Hit the handle of the ratchet with the mallet and it will knock loose. Much much easier than trying to muscle it or use a breaker bar. Good Luck.

or just do what your supposed to =]

buy 2 8x1.25mm Bolts about 4" + long. and screw then in evenly to break the rotor free. worked well for me... fairly time consuming to screw it in. but works

*edit* nevermind. thought you were referring to the rotor... i jerry rig my limited tool kits.

what i do is take my 6" extension, put a 17mm socket on it. and put it over the end of my wratchet... just extra leverage.
