Default Attn. JGLUDER and alll other tech heads!

My head is going in for milling on Monday or Tuesday. I have a 95 JDM Prelude H22. How much should I take off it. I was thinking either 20 or 30 thou. Now with milling this head, will it be completely necessary to run adjustable cam gears. I have to know this as I want to have everything done properly all at once!

Cam gears arent necessary, but preferable.

You can mill it, but I'm against milling it a lot. That messes with the timing components.

What should I mill it then? I want to make sure I dont have piston and valve clearance problems!! DO you thikn I would get away with 30 thou no problem even if I throw bigger cams in down the road. One more question, is it even worthwhile to mill the head?????

Every compression point is between 8-12 hp. So, that's a pretty cheap way to get it.

I just don't like milling a lot because of the timing troubles I had after my head was severly worked over. But I know how to fix it now!

Ok, guys. I am probably going to shave 30 thou. What will my valve lash have to be? Can I leave it stock? What will my cam timing be off at 30 thou being milled?

Listened up. I milled my head .30 for a while. Had no problem..... And then I took off another .06 because some how there was a groove around the combustion area. And til this day I ( knock on wood ) I haven"t had a problem. Cam grear to me is a must.....When milling the head, you're actually retarding the timing, you'll need the cam gear to compensate your motor...

The only down fall is that it makes your compression ratio tricky. There goes thoes high compression piston you might want to get. Ona stock Prelude Vtec the you can produce up to 11:0.1 on pump gas. Possible 11:6.1 but you may end up using Octane booster every full tank of gas to help it not to detonate.

Cheap gains, but as long you know what you're doing.................

So how much does it actually retard the timing? Right now I am running my valve lash .002 tighter than stock. I guess I will have to loosen them a bit. So for sure, I will have no clearance problems with the stock cams? How far off will it retard the cams at 30 thou? Thanks, guys!!

About 2 or 3 degrees on your timing, valve lash .002 tighter than sounds right. The clearance is good, when was the last time you adjusted your valves

I just dod them last week. I have been running my valve lash tighter so I can get a little more duration and lift out of the stock cams. Can I leave it at this valve lash that I have now with the head being milled 30 thou?

As long you don't touch any of the valve train, It's all good.......

So are you saying to leave the valve lash stock?
