Active ABS??
Okay, so I hope you can guess what I'm looking for. I want to know if it is possible to swap Active ABS from the Type-S Prelude into my car. I have a Type-SH with all ATTS sensors working, and will be putting in a Type-S engine, and using the JDM ecu. I want to know how difficult it would be to retrofit my car with Active ABS? Could I simply purchase a Type-S ABS unit and swap it in? I don't see why it would need extra sensors beyond the ones already there for ATTS and ABS, but obviously I don't know for sure.
Has anyone ever done this, or does anyone have any information? It would be awesome if I could just buy an ABS unit and have it, thanks for the help everyone! |
Re: Active ABS??
I had thought about this too. I'm guessing you would need... JDM ecu, JDM ATTS ecu, JDM ABS ecu, and possibly the master ABS modulator unit (I forget what it's called). Theoretically you have all the necessary sensors already, though (as you mentioned). Let us know how it goes!

Re: Active ABS??
Okay, so the ABS ecu, where is that exactly? Is that not part of the main ecu? I will have the JDM main and ATTS ecu... so all I would have to get would be the ABS ecu and pump?

Re: Active ABS??
I'm just giving you my best guess honestly, you might need nothing else or a whole lot more. I'm 95% positive there is a separate ABS control unit; I'll have to look in my Helm's to tell you where it is. Obviously the easy thing would be if you could get your hands on the JDM shop manual :) Since I suspect the control units are different, you may also have to do some extra wiring to/from the ABS control unit and ABS pump.

Re: Active ABS??
Bump.
Does anyone know how I could find the info from the JDM shop manual, more specifically, written in English? I know that's a tall order, perhaps they printed them for New Zealand or something? Anyway, the swap is almost done, and I would still like to do this. The car is at AV Engineered getting the wiring and everything finished up, and while the engine runs fine, there's an ATTS light. I'm running the JDM ecu so the OBD2 tool doesn't properly interface, but it indicates an ABS system malfunction. I'm wondering if this is just an error because of the different interface, or if maybe the JDM ATTS ecu is looking for the Type-S ABS controller and pump? |

Re: Active ABS??
What is indicating an ABS malfunction? The ABS light, CEL or ATTS light? If it's the ATTS light and is indicating a problem with the ABS system, I think you've probably figured it out, although I haven't heard of that issue before. If so, you will likely either need to finish the conversion including the Active ABS, or use the USDM ecu and ATTS cu.

Re: Active ABS??
The OP has not posted since 2011, so you probably won't get an answer there.
From all of the ATTS equipped cars I have seen, there is a specific procedure to reset the system to clear codes, which must be done after anything has been done which involved disconnecting the ATTS unit, i.e. clutch job all the way to engine swap. Using any JDM computers is going to possibly cause that much more of an issue, since you won't have the OBDII compatibility. |
