93 Prelude S speedometer, odometer, tripometer all not working
 

I'v had this car for around a year (f22a1 version, btw) and I love it, however a problem has sprung up that I cant figure out for the life of me.

My speedometer, tripometer, and odometer have all stopped working. I looked into it before and found out about the VSS so I replaced that and it didnt help. I then figured "Ok, must be the whole unit" so I replaced the instrument cluster, still nothing. A friend of mine thinks its the ECU but that doesnt quite make sense, though its always a possibility I guess. Its gotta be some wiring malfunction, right? Everything else in the cluster works, all the lights and my tach so I know that it isnt the new unit and I know I installed the new VSS properly so it can't be that either. Very occasionally, it'll all just start working and then stop for god knows how long again. I tried cleaning out the plug on the VSS and the cable that plugs into it but still no dice.

Im a bit stumped here and I'm sorry if this same problem has been solved before, I tried looking and couldn't find much. Thoughts?
