Default 5th gen ABS Motor Stuck ON - code 53. Please help!

Hi All,

I have the ABS light on, the code is 53 - Motor Stuck ON.

Additionally I have found some brake fluid (i think) or other kind of oily crap around the brake fluid reservoir. It looks like the thing was sprayed all over and there is a stain on the underside bonnet mat.
The fluid level is well ove min though and the car brakes, just no ABS.

I understand the code means the ABS pump module is gone.
I also know this kind of error may be triggered by something trivial like a bad sensor or something, or maybe low pressure in the system.

Could anybody tell me how to diagnose the pump or how to actually find out which component os the ABS system has failed?

I can do some multimeter stuff etc. just don't know where to start.
I don't want to replace the pump and end up with the same error.

All input is much appreciated.

You should try unplugging the relay that control the pump and jump two terminals to see if the pump runs. I don't know which terminals though. Or you can try putting battery voltage to the pump directly at the 2 pin connector, to see if the pump runs. If it doesn't, you've found the problem. Just remember, you do this at your own risk.

THanks, I applied 12V directly the 2 pin connector and the motor did not make a sound. Looks like the pump is gone. I suppose this is test good enough to be certain...

Yeah, it's gone. Get a used one from Ebay.
