3rd Gear Grind. Fix now or later?
 

My 3rd gear grinds every time I shift at redline. It doesnt grind at all except only from the 2nd to 3rd shift from redline. Somebody told me my 3rd gear synchros are probably shot. I really dont have the money to get my tranny dropped and synchros replaced. Do you guys think this a serious problem and will ruin my tranny if I continute to shift at redline from 2nd gear to 3rd? Or is it simply an annoyance that can be lived with?

does it slip in easy if you double clutch it and shift into 3rd?
what kind of tranny fluid are you using?

my 5th gear does the same thing. it goes in smoothly if i double clutch it. think i'm also gonna put gm synchromesh in my tranny. heard a lot of good things a bout it

Never tried double clutching it but ill give it a try. I bought it used so Im assuming its Honda MTF. Dont even wanna know how much it will cost to replace synchros.

Simple. don't redline your shift from 2nd to 3rd until you have the money to replace the synchros for the 3rd gear. And while you have it out you might to look at your other ones to make sure they are good too, better to replace it all at once than at different times.

I guess I cant drive it hard anymore. Sucks to since its my daily driver. The car only has 30k miles on it to.
