Default 2001 Prelude rear suspension making thumping noise over bumps.

2001 lude. I have ground control coil overs and I installed Tokico blues with them. I have about 20,000 kms on them. I find that the rear end makes thumping noise when going over bumps now. There seems to be some leaking from the struts as well as dust is accumulating on the outside of them. Are they blown again? Should they leak at all? Is this normal with the GC springs to go through struts like this.

i am pretty sure they are not supposed to leak. You probably do have blown struts.

Those shocks are supposed to be more of an OEM replacement. If you want to stick with that brand, get the Illuminas or better yet go to Koni or Bilstein.

hey i have a 2001 lude and have tien ss in them with pillow ball mounts and mine make the same noise in the back when i go over bumps so if you have pillow ball mounts it could be those, other then that im not sure. if you press down on your rear and it goes down up down your struts are ok but if it bounces more then they are broken.

If your shocks are leaking that's obvious sign of something wrong. Next place to look would be the trailing arm bushings.

Definitely. That liquid(or whatever it is) is what is compressing the shock absorber. When the shock absorber is compressed, there is less room in the shock, so it relieves the liquid into the outer shell or outer chamber of the shock and when it is rebounding, there is more room in the shock so therefore the liquid naturally comes back in. So if it is leaking, obviously the shock won't be doing its job.

Not necessarily. The super street suspension, if you lower the settings in the 16-adjustable way settings all the way to 1, then the car will bounce more than once. You can accidentily break your adjustable dial while you are at the lowest setting but you it is not necessarily blown.

thanks guys, yeah I was pushing down on the drivers side rear of the car and I can hear the air/ or fluid compressing out of there, so that shock appears to be gone. The others seem to be alright. Should I just replace that shock or all 4 with new springs.

It depends, what is your current spring rates and what do you want (comfort, handling, track). But as far as your shocks if you are still okay with your current setup then get them rebuilt. I believe you can get that done for under $100. Replacing that shock will be alot more costly than a rebuild

I highly doubt you can even get Tockico Blue's rebuilt. Just get new shocks all-around that can handle higher spring rates than oem.
