Tires/Tyres/Rubber

I've got a 2000 Suzuki GSX-R 600

What kind of tires would you guys recommend me getting?

I'm not racing or anything, so street tires...I guess...

Just wanna be armed with some sort of info before I go to buy new tires at Chicago/Champion Cycle Center.

Thanks,

Jin

Here are some shitty Sony Erricson T610 Pics for you guys->

metzeler sportec m1's 190 size. they work great for me, best thing i ever did was get rid of those dunlop d208's.

i seen a site that had the sportec's for sale for $220 front and rear.

I have some sort of Bridgestones on there right now. I see no tread in the middle of the back tire.

So I'm guessing I need new tires.

I just ordered some michelen pilot sports... i have heard that they are pretty good. got them for $286 front and rear

Re: (__37__)

Holy shiiiiiit. I just got quoted $265 Installed for just the rear.

The Tire was ~$200 and the install is $65 or $35 if I bring them the back tire.

I decided I wanted to go one size wider.

Should I just order a tire online and have them mount it?

So the consensus (sp) is get the Metzeler Sportec M-1 SuperSports or the Michelin Pilot SPORT's?

Anyone have any input on where to get them for a good price?

metzeler m1 sportecs are sticky and pretty cheap(~200/pr). They don't wear well though so if you're doing highway duty you may want to reconsider. The pilots are somewhat the same but better in the wet. Don't go wider on the rear. Just don't. A good wearing but still sport oriented tire would be the bridgestone bt10s. They're pretty cheap as well. Should be about $210 for the pair.

I'm going to go with M1's too. Stay with a 180 rear, bike handles better.

Dunlop 208s... I just got a set not to long ago and I really like them!!!!

hatchb20 07-23-2004 04:38 AM

i have avons on my gsxr. if you want the tire to last long then go with avon but if you do alot of "sideways riding" then the metzeler or the Michelin

More Grip/Less Life
Mmetzeler m1 sportecs
Pilots

Less Grip/More Life
Brigdestone BT10's
Avons
Dunlops 208's

I'm not gonna be doing any racing, mostly just cruising on the highway. So I guess I'm choosing from the BT10's, Avon's or those Dunlops. I'll take your word for not going one wider in the back.

I guess I'm gonna replaced my 190/55/17 Dunlop 207's with the same 208's

Any good sites where I can order these for a good price?

Re: (marmaladeboy)

try a 180 size rear. The bike turns in faster. If you dont like it, go back to 190 on the next tire change

Jinya1004 07-24-2004 01:39 PM

Re: (big pete)

Why do people go one size bigger if you turn faster with 180?

Straight line acceleration?

Etylorcen 07-24-2004 05:12 PM

Re: (Jinya1004)

More traction. But a 180 is fine and handles much better, unless we're talking about a 190/55 which only pirelli makes.

Re: (Etylorcen)

Check out the Metzeler Z4, fantastic tire. It might be called the MEZ4, I can't remember.

Great in the dry, good in the wet, long tread life.

I have a 190/55/17 on my bike right now, its the Dunlop 207s.

I'm gonna have to guess that my brother put the wider ones when he replaced the rear tire.

So you guys are recommending that I put the 180/55/17 instead of the 190?
