Yes that was a big factor. Also the 636 is the best overal value out there right now. No other bike in the 600 class comes close to it.

thats cool i still cant get into those things mang. but nonetheless. hopefully ill be able to get somethin before the end of the year.

How much time & money does it take to get a motorcycle license.. and do I need insurance?

Sorry for the lame questions.. Im just totally new at this and none of my friends own bikes.

First off go get yourself a permit at the DMV. Then no matter what all the posers in your area or the idiots on-line say, take the MSF class. It will help give you an idea if bikes are really for you and might even save your life. Classes near you can be found here:

Finally no matter how good you think you are after that class start small with a 500cc bike or less.

im glad you're over that chick and moving on to getting a bike. for the most part, you need insurance, and a motorcycle endorsement on your license. check with your local dmv/mva for registration fees. in md, its roughly $100 for the course. and d o n o t forget about gear. it may be a "setback" as far as money is concerned, but can you really put a pricetag on your life?

97civic-R: im just not diggin those new fronts. i did hear that its top in its class though. i guess ill actually have to ride one to justify why i dont like it...

all the places ive seen provide you with the bike, unless you're going for the advanced class

I think the classes are a few hundred bucks. Thats only what I've heard because I'm in the Air Force and took it for free on base so that may be an option for you if you're active duty or a dependant. They have bikes for you to use during the class. In my class we used 250cc Hondas which were easy and fun.

take the MSF course to see if motorcycling is for you.. if you're under 21 in Cali, the class is $150.. if you're over 21, it's $200. They provide the bike and helmet. We mostly rode 125cc Honda CB125t's (the instructor told us they're gonna be betting brand new Buell Blasts for training )

So I can get a permit from the DMV than buy a kawasaki and just drive it around till I get the hang of it?

Because there isnt a MSF close to me at all. closest one is a 2hour drive

Took my car title and used it for collateral against the bike. Only way I could get it insured cheap or the slightest bit affordable. My car is totalled. Insurance pays bike off. I have to pay off the remainding of my car for my parents. But oh well.

Equipment: Helmet, Gloves, Leather Jacket, Leather Pants, Boots, bike lock, chain cleaner, chain grease, oil filter, oil, etc..,

Depending on which route you go to get licensed will tell you how long it takes and how much money is involved. You can either get licensed through the DMV or take the MSF course, I chose the latter.

Insurance is dependent on where you live and if it's required by your state and also what you plan on using the bike for. Most track only bikes don't get insured.

thats what i did. I still only have my permit right now and its been expired for a year. But then again i practiced on an ex500 for a year in my local neighborhoods so i knew all the controls.

Either way, its better to be on the safe side and take the msf course. You will learn a lot of useful things there that may someday save your life.
