Default How to change the coolant out on my Superhawk?

I want to drain and refill the coolant on my 996 superhawk.

How do I drain the coolant?
And what type of coolant is recommended?

Thanks Guys!

1. Make sure the bike has had enough time to cool down (hot coolant = scalding).
2. Remove the mirrors.
3. Disconnect the headlight, position light, and turn signal light wires.
4. Remove the fairing (two outer hex bolts on each side, one inner phillips screw on the inner fairing near the forks).
5. As you stand in front of the bike, pull fairing out towards you.
6. Remove coolant cap.

At this time, it would be a good idea to place a catchpan or something similar underneath the bike, as you will be releasing a LOT of fluid very quickly. I use an oil catchpan that I can move easily, because the fluid will shoot out at first, then slow to a trickle. Lots of shop rags will come in handy.

7. Remove the right (throttle-side) radiator hose directly underneath the (right) radiator.
8. There is a drain bolt near the forward cylinder. It will be just behind the exhaust pipe. Remove that to drain coolant from the engine.
9. Reconnect the drain bolt and hose.
10. Refill with Pro Honda HP brand coolant.

If you decide to use Water Wetter or some variation thereof, you might want to flush the system a few times before putting in the new stuff.

11. Fill coolant (or your WW mixture) into the radiator until it's near the top.
12. Turn on the motorcycle, let it run for a few minutes, and snap the throttle open a few times in that duration.
13. Add coolant as necessary to maintain the level (near the top, but not overflowing).
14. Perform steps 6 through 2 to put the bike back together.
