If you have a vaccum petcock its not working correctly, and the fuel valve needle in the float bowl is leaking fuel past the seat.

hmph. The thing is brand new though. I'll check it again tonight. Yesterday was the first time ever that I drained that tube. I don't think it has a fuel problem because wouldn't it be getting crappy mileage then?

I guess I misunderstood. I thought you had fuel in your crankcase. Whats this tube thing?

It's called the crankcase breather and it has a tube that goes to the bottom of the scooter and drains on the ground when you remove the plug in the tube.

Thread revival authorized!

I picked up another Elite yesterday for $400. I found it on craigslist. It's a 1985 with only 1,000 miles. I'm just going to clean it up and fix a few things, do routine maintenance, etc. If I move back into town I will definitely get it plated, but for right now it's going to chill in my storage unit.

I think I am starting to develop a hoarding problem

I got an '87 Elite 250 today. It needs a little work but will do about 65 mph. I am going to sell my 80 to a coworker hopefully.

I bought a 250cc Chinese scooter back in 2008 when gas prices were high, $1699 delivered to my door:

I rode that thing everywhere.. from Philly to NYC and back.. even some off-raoding:

Carrying some big load at times:

also carry my bicycle on my scooter:

W/the pelican case to carry cycling helmet, shoes, water bottles, gear, food.. no obstruction to brake/tail lights nor turn signals.. and kept the ability to split lane in traffic.

I've put over 10,600 mi. on it since MAR 2008, still on the original drivebelt. The scooter cost $35 to insure for the whole year, cruises easily around 45-50 mph and get well over 75 mpg.

Don't knock it until you try it.
With over 10k mi. on it, it's been one of the most reliable moto I've owned.
Valve adjustments on it takes less thank 5 minutes while the engine is running.

I did try it. I had a Unified Motors 150 cc scoot for about a week before I got rid of it.

I just don't trust them.

Well, my Elite 250 had electrical gremlins so I got rid of it, and I traded my Elite 80 to my new landlord for 2 months of rent. Honda's been running some good deals on scooters lately, so I picked up a 2010 Elite. It is 108 cc's, liquid cooled, fuel injected. It is a much needed replacement for the Elite 80, which was sold from 1985 to 2007. Of course it kicks the 80's *** in every category. It is 75 pounds heavier, but it carries it well. The new Elite seems well built and more solid, where the Elite 80 seems flimsy and cheap. It is ECU limited to 53 mph. This scoot is 10 mph faster than the Elite 80 in almost every situation.
