good website for replacement rear tire for my r6?
 

Kind of new to the scene... I think my rear tire is about out.. sides are ok but the middle part barely passed inspection. Anyone know of a reputable tire store online? How much could I expect to pay if i took it to a shop and bough it there?

Between shipping costs and installation fees, you're probably better off going to a local dealer. Modern sport tires are what, 150 to 200$ for a rear?

I tried installing my own rear tire before, what a waste of time.

I like the MEZ4 but the M1's are even better.

The dealer wanted $175 for the same tire I got for $116. Installation was $40 at a local bike shop.

was that witht he wheel on the bike or off? THe local shop here wanted 90 for install if i had the tire on the bike!

dang $40, that's alot, the place I go to here charges $10 to mount and balance if I bring the wheel to them.

how long will a rear tire last usually under normal riding (not too much leaning https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif ) conditions? 3k miles?

A rear tire can last anywhere from 2k to 10k miles. Sport tires are generally towards the lesser end of the spectrum.

I know the owner, so I usually get good prices.

Metzeler M1s are great tires for the price.

I have had my MEZ4 for almost 10k now, maybe 1/3rd tread left. I don't ride aggresively.

$40 was mounting the tire with the old one on the bike.

Ok 116 plus 40 is 156. Assuming the 116 included shipping, you saved $19. $19 here, $21 there, having a good relationship with a local dealer can be worth more than what you can save buying online.

trhe mez4 is a good sport touring tire, better tread life, harder compound. i heard they quit making them?

$175 + $40 = $215
$116 + $40 = $156

savings = $59, and that is just for 1 tire. Factor in 2 tires and you are over $100. That's substantial in my world.

Solid realtionship? This is business not "Dealer Date". My job as a consumer is to get the lowest price I can. The dealers job is to take as much of my money as they can. They can take their 80% markup and shove it up their ass. I am all for supporting local businesses and do it as much as I can but when the local dealer wants to fist you sans lube, sorry, they are losing business. If they went with a more reasonable markup like the rest of the world they would lose less business to the online companies.

I *always* give the dealer a chance before I order online, and they never fail to disappoint me.

As always, I don't mind being wrong. You didn't make it clear about the totals in your first post. But you might not want to get too nasty with me Roy, I'm just like you. I shop online for the best prices, and have zero relationship with the local shops. My last post was just thinking aloud, playing devil's advocate.

Actually if you knew how far I'd go to get the best price...lets just say I'm fairly certain I am much worse about it than you will ever be. Many times I end up wasting more effort and time than its worth. But it makes me feel good to get the best price, so meh.

Some of my buddies have relationships dozens of years old with favorite local shops of theirs. They get back 10 fold what ever extra they spent compared to shopping online. I know many shops would never offer any kind of special deal to a long time customer, and many are incompetent besides. Luck of the draw I guess. Your mpg may vary... Flame away.

No need. You played the advocate, I played the other part. Points were brought up that otherwise wouldn't have happened. Hopefully, somebody learned something. No worries.

Sometimes I inject some sarcasm just for the hell of it. For those that are on the receiving end, no harm intended. I just don't like to be dry all the time and I, like most others, should be taken with a grain of salt.

My buddy picked up a metzler m1 for about 110 bucks (yes it was the rear) at a honda dealership in charlotte. He also installed it himself. he said hed never do that again though. anyways i bought the bike with less than 200 miles put on the tire. handles great. we called a local shop they said 15 bucks to change the tire if we brought them the wheel. So yeah check with the dealership saves time and sometimes (but rarely) money.

I have dunlops in the front and thought of getting m1's in the rear.. the local bike shop said that isn't a good idea.. is this true or are they just trying to make me buy the more expensive tire?

It's not a good idea to mix and match tires. You should keep the front and back with same brand tires so that they have same pattern thread. Maybe you should buy a new front tire as well as the rear? I know...low on cash? Nobody said doing burnouts was going to be cheap.

well thing is I just purchased a brand new dunlop tire for the front so there would be no point in me chaning both from and rears to m1's.. guess i'll just go with the dunlops in the rear for now... and no i dont do burnouts.. I'm just a rookie https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif
