Hell ******* no thats not a good deal.
80-100 for the clutch plates...
labor should be an hours worth...two at the max!
I can do it in 45 minutes.
EDIT: SO long as its just the friction plates, steel plates and springs...and not the basket as well...
If your having to get the basket case changed too...then ya i can see it costing that much...however...
Unless your **** is severely fucked...you should only need the new clutchplate kit....which as i said...a Barnett Racing aftermarket clutch plate kti for our bike goes for 145 bucks and thats with springs.
So stock clutch kit is significantly less.

Step 1, take off the body panel
Step 2, take off the clutch cover
Step 3, take off the pressure plate cover
Step 4, take out the clutch plates and steel discs and replace with new ones.
Step 5, reverse steps 3-1.
It wouldn't take me more than 30 min.

i work as a automotive tech at a dealership and you get charged like said a flat rate, also you said good shops that care about your business do not??
that must be one whack business, any SMART BUSINESS will charge somehwat close to book rate, if this shop is in your friends back yard i can see them charging only 20min
