I'd say Honda, but I own 3 other Honda motorcycles so I might be biased Go for whichever one you like better, and/or get a better deal on.

No doubt if ur just learning and like LOOKS I would be on the CBR6, but when you want a little more in life like myself(gixxer 1k ) and need more then looks go for performance. Gixxer sixer has one of the best engines and chassis set-up that I've experienced at the track. The gixxer fast and you could never out do it. It'll out do you first. It always wants to be pushed harder threw the twisties and says goodbye to CBR in the process. Leds the 600 class by a mile.
R6 who said R6? The newer R6s flooped, Poor throttle response, soft suspension and unbalanced weight distibution means Dont hate me..just stating some facts

ive heard the cbr is a good street bike and great for long trips...very comfy....but not much ground clearance, the gixxer is a great bike for track use!!!! but not as comfy....most of my friends ride gsxr600's and one has a f4i......... the guys with the gixxers love the them and the guy with the cbr loves his......i guess its just what you want from your bike!!!
and im lookin into getting a R6 but is that true that the new ones are crap????

Definately Gixxer. It's a better (more racey) bike. The only thing is that the fuel injection system takes some getting used to. Small stumble off idle.
Honda is a more forgiving bike and is set up with a more sport/touring feel.
At least in my opinion.
I don't ride either but if I had to get a new one it would definately get the Gixxer.

yeah so i heard. But they still look cool.(r6 and r1) I never liked the Gixxers until i actually rode 1.. I traded my 954rr for the 1k gixxer. Suzukis rule dude, but their brakes suck.

Re: cbr 600 or gsxr 600 (DubyaAye)
I ride er pilot a 2001 Suzuki GSX-R600. I am new rider also who only has 3000+ miles under his belt. I have ridden the following bikes...
1997 GSX-R600
2001 GSX-R600
2001 Honda F4i
I say get the Honda F4i. It is waaaaay friendlier than the 01 Gixxer6.
In my opinion, the '01+ Gixxers are really aggressive and need some cycling experience to get used to. For instance, the FI and fuel management is really aggressive on the gixxer so at low rpms in gears 1,2,3...it is really rough and requires a lot of throttle management to have a nice/smooth cruising ride.
Don't get me wrong, on on serious sweepers, high speed action and looks are great on a Gixxer...but take it from me...it is definitely not a good starting bike for the street if you have no experience.
I didn't take the MSF course like the dumbass that I am... and got involved in 2 accidents last year. I believe that I would of not of gotten broke off like I did, IF I took the safety course. I also got my license after I rode for like 3 months illegally.
Guess which bike I used to pass the hard *** DMV motorcycle test?
The Honda F4i
(The MSF course is better and waaaaay easier to get a motocycle license btw)
Why did I use my buddy's F4i instead of my gixxer6 ?
Because the Gixxer6 can't make sharp turns worth a ****. I barely can make U turns for chrissakes. The Gixxer6 is a track bike and track courses don't require riders to do U turns or sharp turns like intersection turning and ****.
Well I am rambling and I wish you well...
Either way... be safe and don't be a squid.
Remember your first mods should be helmet, leathers, armour, boots and kevlar/carbon gloves. You will be lucky to have enough money to get a slip on afterwards. Don't be a squid and get all these performance parts for the bike and have no money for the gear.

Hondas and GSXR do about the same in WERA. I would go Honda only because they are more reliable. The GSXR looks better to me. I have riden both and they feel about the same.

Re: cbr 600 or gsxr 600 (2K_TEG)
i was at a bike shop today and got some knowledge from the sales lady. she said the gixxer and the r6 are basically the same bike as far as performance. the r6 is carberated, and the gixxer is fuel injected; the gixxer responds better to mods than the r6. but of course the r6 makes up for it in weight. as far as the f3/f4 go,
"they're for taller people and arent as competitive as the susuki's and yamaha's. i get people in here all the time saying that they want to beat their friend's f3, so they get a gixxer, and sure enough, they win." -local sales lady
im new to the whole motorcycle thing, so is this accurate?? or is it just mainly opinion??? thanks.

Taller? I know a lot of guys that ride gixxers that are tall and don't complain, the F4i is a more relaxed riding style bike so I don't really know if that's what she was hinting towards or...???

Pick up an issue of Sport Rider or something. Look through the magazines and see how they rate them.
If you are going to get a R6, wait till next year... I hear they are going to be badass and fuel injected
But quiet honestly, I would get a Honda F3/F4/F4i because your experience is going to be more rewarding. They are the most user friendly bikes on the streets and have great performance. We are also talking about Honda quality.
Imagine revving to 13k+ rpms and having a v-tec surge like no other!
