01 F4i Starting trouble
Hi guys,
Im in need of some help. 2 weeks ago i went to start my vehicle and when i removed my button from the starter the bike completely died. first thoughts were maybe the battery is completely drained. Im in Tx and it does get hot here, plus i havent gotten a new battery since the vehicle was bought in '01. I tried recharging the battery but its not charging. I got it jumped and it still has the same problem. Whenever i release the starter button it just dies. It does start up but like i said when i release my finger away it just dies......
A little history, prior to this happening to me.. on several different occassions I would be riding and coming to a stop from a high speed like 55 to 70 mph, and the bike would just die out. i had to press the starter and give a little throttle to keep it up.
Please anyone have any thoughts what the problem could be?

if your battery were dead it wouldn't start at all. Although the fact that the battery isn't charging is a bad sign, still, it doesn't make sense that it would turn over and then die.
It's possible that you're not getting spark or something.

Ok, check the sparks and the RR... mind telling me what RR stands for? Yes its a honda..
thanks for the responses..
Exactly a good point about the battery being completely dead... if it was dead it wouldnt start in the first place...

If the battery was dead it wouldnt even crank. To me, sounds like a spark problem if as soon as you let off the starter it dies.

RR = Regulator/Rectifier
My CBR exhibited similar symptoms to what you were describing when my RR started to crap out. Once it's gone, your battery is next.

Re: (marmaladeboy)
Sounds somewhat like the problem I was having. I bet a new battery will solve it for the moment, but maybe look into a new rectifier like lmaomadeboy said.
