2007 Honda Pilot overheating
I bought a 2007 Pilot with a leaking radiator. I replaced the radiator with a new one. I followed some YouTube procedure to get the air out of the system. The engine still overheated so I replaced the thermostat. Again I let the engine run with the heater on and the radiator cap off to get the air out. It idled for nearly an hour and the temperature gauge never went over half. I shut it off, topped off the coolant, put the cap on and headed down the street. I didn’t get one block before the temperature gauge was maxed out on hot! What could be wrong?

Could have a headgasket issue now since it overheated, might have warped something. While bleeding the coolant, rev it up and see if it makes bubbles. Is it pushing coolant out the overflow?

I sure hope there’s no head gasket issue. I just bought it knowing the radiator had a leak. The past owner had it regularly serviced at his local Honda dealer and it started leaking the day I tried it out. The motor starts and runs smooth and as long as I have the radiator cap off, the temp is normal. As soon as I put cap on and start down the street, the temp climbs to the H.

It made lots of bubbles while bleeding and when I shut it off the coolant was sucked in. I was able to add about a gallon of coolant and thought I got the air out.

make sure both fans are running when the car starts to overheat, if the fans are running then you need to compression test to see if the head is leaking
