what works as O2 sensor for 2003 Insight MT?

I have a 2003 Insight MT with CEL on. The codes are P0134 and P1166, both indicating O2 sensor problem.

I'd like to try replacing the sensor(s) myself. I see there's one before and one after the cat convrtr. My current sensors are Denso brand, with four wires. Can anyone suggest what aftermarket will work well for the sensor before the cat? I'm looking for something that costs less than the Honda original, but still has a good reputation. I have read that the Amazon and other web site selections for specific make/year/model are not always correct, so I'd rather hear from someone who has actually been there and done that.

Suggestions?

Hondas really only like DENSO or NTK sensors (and plugs too).

Safest option, although the most expensive, is the dealer (#17): http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...5=EXHAUST+PIPE Don't gag at the price.

These guys are ok: http://www.rockauto.com/ You can get DENSO for around $150.

Make sure you get the 5-wire o2 sensor or you will not get lean burn! I believe the pre-cat o2 sensor is the 5-wire,thsts how it is on my civic HX.

P.S. The lower one is more then likely a standard 4-wire.

Stay with Denso, you can even get them from their site and at 50 bucks i don't think that is expensive. Make sure you don't touch the sensor or get anything on it when you install it, also a little antiseize on the threads is a nice touch.

No they don't. To have a bad experience with parts like that you are simply using the wrong part for the application, or a one-size-fits-all part. O2 splices are a no go, always get a replacement with a connector already on it.

The front and rear sensors are 4 wire units, the front sensor is a LAF type, and is expensive.

Replace the front LAF sensor, and check the heater of the old one to ensure it did break. If the resistance of the old unit is within spec, you will most likely have a blown fuse, at worse a damaged wire.

There is at LEAST one service bulletin regarding new part numbers for the front LAF sensor. I would advise if you order from a dealer to order the new numbers per the bulletin.

An OE Denso type from a parts store will set you back around $260 before tax, and of course, what strings you pull.

Yes they do. Go ahead and put a Bosch in there and see what happens. 3 out of 4 times it won't work right. While you're at it, go ahead and tell us why Bosch isn't a top tier brand.

I've used Bosch my entire career, in all vehicles. The only place you find hatred for them is on here. Bosch makes some of the highest quality parts in the world.

Please specify what, in your experience, has not worked right on a Bosch O2 sensor. Too rich? Too much heater current? What (other than ignorance) drives your belief.

I don't rank parts by brand. I rate them on form, fit, and function.

get some brand new oem sensors if you don't want issues, or even if they are used as long as they work for you.
