Top Secret CR-Z Turbo Kit
http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/p...qp1j35j313jvk6
Looks like HKS isn’t the only kid on the block looking for big horsepower gains with Honda‘s newest cool hybrid, the CR-Z. And perhaps this really solidifies a changing of the times considering Top Secret is well known for their wicked drift cars and high horsepower 350Zs and Supras. They’re also well known for their blistering high-speed test runs, so to see Smoky Nagata of Top Secret working away on Honda’s ZF1 hybrid powerplant shows that hybrids and tuning are going to go hand-in-hand for decades to come. Aftermarket manufacturers are going crazy out in Japan over hybrids and seeing what Top Secret is developing for the CR-Z is slightly astonishing. We can’t quite decipher what’s going on from the magazine snippet – and would love if someone could offer us a translation – but Top Secret is definitely underway in producing a single turbo upgrade and even has a titanium induction kit, oil catch tank and tow hook out to the public now. The stuff comes at a price though, with $995.00 as the MSRP for the Ti Induction kit straight from Japan. We’re sure many enthusiasts are still rolling their eyes about the idea of a hybrid being turbocharged or supercharged. But let’s face it: every automotive manufacturer will be working on developing hybrids for the future to fill out their lineup with mpg-friendly cars. It’s only natural that the aftermarket will find ways to make these eco cars more fun. |

this car is changing the hybrid scene and in a good way

Re: Top Secret CR-Z Turbo Kit
hahaha man this defeats the whole purpose of a hybrid.. its suppose to run like shit to get good gas economy
its cool but ironic at the same time |
Re: Top Secret CR-Z Turbo Kit
This looks like serious business.

Re: Top Secret CR-Z Turbo Kit
turbo on a hybrid seems like it would not fair as well as a supercharged hybrid. cause when you first start off the electric motor is powering the car(and in other situations), so wouldn't that effectively cause more "turbo lag"/ take much longer for the turbo to spool?

Re: Top Secret CR-Z Turbo Kit
The electric motor is powering the car? Nope...the electric motor supports the engine. It's not a full hybrid like in Toyotas.

Re: Top Secret CR-Z Turbo Kit
Which is why Honda needs to drop the whole hybrid moniker and market it as something else. I mean they do call it already Integrated Motor Assist and I guess in a way it is a hybrid of sorts, but people don't really realize what it is and such as 2 posters up confuse it with the Toyboat system. :)

Re: Top Secret CR-Z Turbo Kit
You guys sound like a bunch of old farts complaining about fuel injection.
Give it a couple years before passing judgment on IMA. This technology has incredible potential. |
Re: Top Secret CR-Z Turbo Kit
somebody will find out how to supercharge the IMA system and then its gonna kick asss it has plenty of potential

Re: Top Secret CR-Z Turbo Kit
How about running a bigger motor or more voltage to get juice out of the motor, thus giving butt loads of torque.

BTW, a MOTOR is TECHNICALLY ANY ELECTRICAL MOVING DEVICE. an ENGINE is what we have with pistons. so the term MOTOR SWAP has been wrong for EVER. these cars have an engine and a motor. |

its cool but ironic at the same time There seems to be two groups interested in this car. Group A is all about it being a hybrid. Group B is all about it looking awesome and being lightweight. A lot of us who are interested in this car could care less if it's hybrid. Just keep that in mind. :) |
