Default Road & Track review of the CRZ

test of the US verson......

http://www.roadandtrack.com/tests/ca...011-honda-cr-z

This mad me lol...

What I can’t understand is why the media buzz surrounding the upcoming Honda CR-Z has been so tame in the U.S. In Japan, where the car has already gone on sale, this new hybrid represents a big turning point in the way Honda will build sports cars in the foreseeable future

then the guy puts this.....

There are three driving modes: Sport, Normal and Economy. Press the “Sport” button to get the most aggressive throttle response and electric motor power assist. The CR-Z gets off the line in a spirited manner, feeling like all of the car’s 128 lb.-ft. of torque is unleashed at once. The forward surge doesn’t last long as the engine seems to run out of steam when it hits the 4000-rpm mark. In our acceleration tests with a CVT-equipped CR-Z, this front-drive Honda reached 60 mph in 10.5 seconds and the quarter-mile in 17.6. We assume (and hope) that the CR-Z with the 6-speed manual will be a step quicker.
Really?.....sport button = 10.5 sec 0-60 and 17.6 sec quarter? Gee, why would the responce be so tame? Guess he did not read R&T review of the Yaris.....0-60 8.6, quater in 16.6 34-40 mpg and a price in the teens when the crz is supose to be 20-28k.......here is the comparo test with the fit and yaris....

http://www.roadandtrack.com/tests/co...ittle_g_page_2

Don't get me wrong, I'm not busting on honda....much....Let it be noted that if honda offered the fit or the crz with the k20z3 from the civic si, I would be first in line to get me one of those, but this path honda seems to be on is just such a let down for me. I miss the old honda car compeny.

The buzz in the US has been tame because there are more of us who care about 0-60 times and less of us who care about the other aspects of a car, relative to Europe or Asia. I definitely agree it lacks power, but I still see it as a desirable package, personally.

also i read that and funny how they said that honda WAS NOT going for a crx design? what was the first thought when that car rolled out as a prototype? And i agree if this car came K20 id love that car, and it be a very nice car. but as stated in a later thread i garentee there will be swaps out for this somewhere. But the over all thought of this car aside from the motor...i like it cant wait till it gets to my dealership

They tested the CVT model, so I take their review with a grain of rice.

Try driving a CVT/IMA/Drive by wire car some time. Its awful.

Yeah after reading that I would probably never get one. Never like hybrids anyways. My friend had a yaris hacth with a 5 spd. That car was a ton of fun to drive. Plus you could rag it all the time and get 29mpg.

Actually the CR-Z GT Top here in Europe with the GREAT 6MT (the shift feels just like the S2000, it´s just great, but the transmission is too long for less fuel consuption) made 0-60 in 9,3 seconds

That IS slow, but if you think about it, a stock AE86 GTS w/4AGE does 0-60 in what, 10.5 seconds? That certainly didn't stop it from becoming a fun car and an enormously important automotive icon.

The original 1.6L NA Miata did it in about 9.5 seconds, I just sold one of those and it was still stupid fun.

I'll reserve judgement until I personally drive one. You only go 0-60 on a racetrack once, what matters is response once you're in the powerband.

The work Spoon did has me excited about this car all over again. Upped the redline from 6200 to 8500 and gained another 40+ horsepower!

or... how about not make an underpowered pig of a vehicle? 128HP while weighing like 2700lbs and being a two seater with very abysmal MPG and a high sticker price? This car has fail written all over it..

I'm not arguing that it's not embarrassing versus most modern competition, I'm just arguing that however embarrassing it may be, there's a good chance it may still be fun. Both the cars I mentioned were slow versus their contemporaries also.

I'm not really even excited about the car, I just hesitate to discount it because of power-to-weight ratio.

How much does a Spoon CRZ cost? If the USDM CRZ is already 20k-28k, the Spoon version will be too expensive.

This car is a joke and they address it in either the most recent Automobile or Motor Trend (I'm too lazy to go back and look) magazine. It's heavy, gets relatively poor gas mileage for what it is and is fairly pricey for what you get. They go on to state, correctly, that there are more fuel efficient, cheaper and faster "hot hatches" available in Europe. I love Honda but this is a poor showing.

Never even knew about this thing until i saw one parked in this neighborhood.
I thought it was cool when I saw a 6 speed shift **** inside.
Then I looked at the rear and it said "hybrid".. and was like "meh.."

now after a little more details i'm horribly dissapointed.
take a look.

Wow, Cali already has them for sale? Sweet, I guess that means we'll get them in OK sometime in the next 5 years. :D
