Default new honda insight owner 2001

Hi honda-tech.

I am very pleased to announce that I now own a 2001 Honda Insight 5 speed gray.
This is my first Honda Insight and I am very proud. I just purchased it and drove 30 some miles and i was averaging 58.7 mpg!!! I am sure that it will fluctuate with given more miles, road conditions, driving conditions, air resistance, weather, etc. but I am very excited and thrilled at the moment.

My current commuter car and still is at the short moment is a 1991 honda crx dx 5 speed which i average 33 mpg mostly city driving. at the time i thought it was quite well until i just picked up the insight.

Any advice you can give me as a New Insight owner? maintenance, more mpg advice, tips and tricks, future problems to watch out for? anything at all

it has 60k miles at the moment and the hybrid battery has been changed recently. no 1st or 2nd gear grinds which is very common in these cars.

any advice is greatly appreciated. I also need a front bumper which the current one on it now has some scratches and bruises. anyone know where i can find one?

thank you

I also noticed that the meter that is on the way right side of the cluster is for the hybrid battery? it shows on my meter that it will never be all the way full. it looks about 80% full and wont go up anymore than that. why is that?

It sounds like you guys might want to try grid charging your batteries. The above link will probably help you out a ton. I just bought a 2000 Insight myself. The previous owner thought the IMA batteries were shot so I got it cheap. He had let the car sit for some time. I reset the 12v battery, and now it works perfect. I plan to buy a grid charger anyway just to be safe, and keep the batteries maintained.
