My CR-Z light tuning, video, added photos.

I have my parts mounted now,

Spoon Venturi Throttle Body
Spoon N-1 tail pipe
HKS Racing Suction Reloaded

Throttle is now very fast and reactive, when down shifting from 6th to 3rd, while rev-matching, it now jumps to high rev with no lag, very fast.
I see no impact on my MPG, even econ mode is now driveable, no more sluggish.

It is sad that my mic records a lot of saturation, buy there you can make your mind : action!

Re: My CR-Z light tuning, video.

are these mods widely available?

alollini 02-21-2011 12:00 AM

Re: My CR-Z light tuning, video.

I would say yes, because it is my first tuning experience, and if you have patience to wait 2 month for a delivery, and if you have the person to mount the parts in perfect security conditions, the go for it.

HKS seller in France is http://www.urban-racing.fr/

Spoon seller in France is http://www.spoonsportsfrance.com/spoon

My subjective (so may be fake) feeling is overall +15% (torque and hp, from 3000rpm and up)

I will do a dyno test this summer.

Was not expecting the blue interior! I like it. I'm assuming that is a factory option over there?

Re: My CR-Z light tuning, video.

Oh no it was made by a pro leather worker, my wife likes blue very much.
the luxury had only grey seats in leather, and included a glass roof i did not want. Price wise in the end it was equal. My leather is much stronger.

Thanks for the video. Your car looks and sounds awesome. I wonder what the difference is on the dyno or 0-60.

The more I see these the more I like them.

Re: My CR-Z light tuning, video.

0-60 is mostly skill based, i feel it better but i see no flat road where i can do a test.

For dyno, i will post as soon as i have some information. (will be in june)

Here is a variant (photoshop) for girls :o

The leather worker needs a pat on the back. Not very often you see re upholstered seats with no wrinkles. Nice ride!!!!

Nice pics!!!

What is that rubber around your lugnuts? All the aftermarket lugnuts I found don't have this.

The aftermarket lugnuts I used on my new wheels took the f*kn paint right off cuz it's metal to metal!!!

alollini 03-17-2011 09:42 AM

Re: My CR-Z light tuning, video.

there is no rubber it is an optical illusion.

The surface where the nuts are metal/metal is not paint on the OZ wheel.

the anodized blue on the nuts is very fast to go off with the tool friction.

I have tightened again after 100km with the dynamometric tool, and i found two nuts that needed it on one of the front wheels.

Re: My CR-Z light tuning, video.

I love the look of the CR-Z, but I am just not impressed with the motor at all. Even after the mods you did, it just doesn't invoke the spirit of the original CR-X, much less an older civic, even with a stock D15. My 92 civic is twice as rev-happy as that thing, and i realise that the revlimiter is probably lower when you are at idle then when you are driving, i've seen other newer cars do this as well, it just... I don't know... I'm not impressed with them.

Don't take this the wrong way, I am very impressed with your car. It looks amazing and I totally dig it. I just think the Honda Engineers took a day off when they decided on the motor, cause the rest of the car looks good.

I guess don't knock it till you try, i haven't gotten to drive one yet, but i saw one the other day on the road, and it is a great looking car.... I like it at least.

I just don't understand why they didn't make like an Si version or something? Hell, how about a Hybrid Si? Surely they can bolt their "IMA" system to a Civic Si motor, they already got the manual gearbox in it, put some sort of "sport" suspension on it, and "sportier" wheels, and call it day. They would probably sell great. I'd buy it.

The blue leather interior looks amazing! You have built a great looking crz sir.

Re: My CR-Z light tuning, video.

good looking car now some coils and youll be set, question though does the spoon throttle body fit the fit? same motor just different internals? any idea

alollini 03-19-2011 10:11 PM

Re: My CR-Z light tuning, video.

+1 ubercerealkiller i totally agree the CR-Z deserves a stronger engine at minimum i would be happy with EK4 or EK9 B16 + ima. That is why i do the mod : i am not a tuner, i just try to correct and make like it should be.
Later on i may do the camshaft + ECU mod from Spoon, but the shame is i will loose some fuel economy...

alollini 03-19-2011 10:23 PM

Re: My CR-Z light tuning, video.

LEA and L15 are more different than it looks. Sparkplugs are different, the throttle body may look identical but i would not take the risk.

Anyway for the camshaft Spoon took a GE8 part then worked on it to adapt in LEA : jumping to 115hp per litre was their goal.

On different sources i got different numbers all with stock intake:
-> 147 whp

I TESTED MY CRZ ON TRACK !

What a great day ! more on this later...

my almost stock CR-Z was far from sluggish !!

dude thats one of the best crz's i have seen yet nice work!!! on the interior. but one question why wouldn't you want the glass roof option?? in the u.s. we don't get it but it would be a great option to have.

alollini 05-05-2011 12:14 AM

Re: My CR-Z light tuning, video.

for several reasons,

- one, glass roof scares me...

- second is the sun, i have read abous citroen owners with glass roofs, even if there is a plastic slider to mask the glass roof when the sun is at max it makes a greenhouse effect
overheating the interior. They experienced high heat even with windows open.

- the third reason is also the sun, and why i have chosen WHITE : after 3 hours parked in direct sunlight the interior is less heat than a black car. (it is obvious,a s in Nice France there is a lot of sunlight) when i take my white car 30 seconds of light AC is enough to cool it.

- the 4th reason is the look, the GT effect, i think it looks more agressive like that

- the 5th reason is weight, i save 3 kilos.(and in the ceiling so far up the center of gravity it is important)
as i plan to add carbon fiber bonnet, and maybe other parts, (painted) this is a long going plan (^_^)

- the 6th reason is price and leather : the glass roof was sold in the Executive trim wich came with leather front seats : euro 1600 more for that trim.
the leather seats are a lousy grey, with little holes, and those looked fragile to me (i have a big fat ass) so i prefer my thick strong leather.

but the absolute best about my car is a mistake : i have the upgraded front bumper with light automatic washer, and Xenon light and fog light !! (part of the executive trim) but i ordered a GT trim, they made a very interesting mistake here !!!

now I tested my CR-Z on track
here is the first picture :

here is the big one

smaller for forum display:

http://www.espacelollini.com/private/DSC_0829-small.jpg

i am a noob at circuit driving, that was my first track day.

the pro pilots that where teaching me found the car very stable, with very good chassis, and high potential.
most of the time they told me "don't shift down" as extracting from the curves and bends was better on torque than on power.

the morning was wet : so i can see my mistake more obviously, it was perfect, the grip of the Continental sport contact 3, surprised me, i didn't know it was possible to drive so fast on wet.

the afternoon was dry, i was improving a little (there is still a LOT of work on my skill) but if we remove the straight line part of the track, i was able do follow most Porches in the S, on braking, on bends.

Obviously the CR-Z extract very agile from bends. (FWD advantage)

Stock suspension is doing a great job.

However the lack of power and the too long third gear show the limits as soon as the is a fast or straigt portion.

I did not turn off the VSA, but its orange ligh or the cutoff, was never felt during the day, even in the hairpin, as i was in 2nd gear and the output of the hairpin was sloping down, i never spin any wheel.

I did 40mn + 20mn on the wet morning,
and 20mn + 20mn on the afternoong (enough to be tired)

when i saw the fuel gauge and the mpg at the end of the day, my teacher almost had a heart attack : 65% fuel remaining, 9.8 L per 100km :thud:
and i know the on board computer is off so true number should be 9.4 L

so this make imperial 30 MPG and USA 25 MPG while racing full throttle.
and that is very impressive.

(Porches made 2 refills in the day, + some spare tanks)

my problems driving i have to sort out :

-not releasing the bakes too early or too sharp in the curve :scared:
-keep the clutch foot on the foot rest especially while braking
-keep the gear changing hand as much as possible on the wheel
