Default Honda Planning Turbo 1.6L CR-Z - 200hp Type-R to Follow

According to Autoblog (Autoblog Article), Honda is planning to deploy its new small displacement turbocharged I4 in an entry level CR-Z platform. The new engine is rumored to make 160hp as an entry level model, and potentially a 200hp Type-R version sometime down the road.

Like many European B and C segment cars, the next Fit and Civic are also moving to smaller displacement, forced induction powertrains to offset increasing emission standards.

While these are still 'rumors', Honda has confirmed they would continue to supply engines to Formula 1 teams when FIA switches to 1.6L Turbo I4's in 2013/2014, and emission standards are going to force Honda to reduce engine size in order to meet CO2 limits on road going vehicles.

Let's hope Honda is finally listening to the enthusiasts...

That is good news! I suspected that Honda would want back into F1 starting in 2013 with the new engine regs. Since they are arguably the I4 engine "masters of the universe"

The 'type r' model is a little over the top for my taste.. but we all know how much things can change from the 'concept' models.

This is interesting...

IF the Type R CRZ comes out and if I like it that much, I might actually sell my EF I have owned since 1996! Bring it Honda

looks nice. I think ideally it would need to have min 150tq & 220whp to make it enjoyable on any track. If the weight was in the 1900-2100 range then 160whp is enough.

paired with a small electric motor this could be quite the fun setup for the street.

Sounds too good to be true, I've lost all faith in honda; I'll believe it when I see it.

Chill out, no need to get so pissed off man.

And a trunk full of batteries doesn't exactly follow the original Type R scheme.

This is pretty exciting...but I'm not holding my breath. Honda/Acura has yet to come out with a USDM car that I was seriously interested in buying since I purchased my ITR back in '99. *I did buy a new 07 Fit along the way and regretted that purchase*

like it or not your paying a LOT of money for a crz that dosn't get that great a gas mileage is not a very fun car to drive since its so grossly underpowered. it looks cool thats about it.

I own a hybrid do you know why? to get on the HOV lanes its an accord hybrid i get mid 30's in it and that ****er gets down and its practical.

I drove the crz the day we got them in not all that great IMO

why does he sound stupid? because a type r is ok to be a hybrid? no sir not at all type r is stripped down no sound deadening no extra crap that isn't needed...the crz is a heavy *** car for such a small vehicle. when you take out all the IPU crap back there it would be much more liveable.

Hybrids come down to be high priced cars when you get up there in mileage get a price on an MCM or the hybrid battery plus diag and labor your looking at 2,800 a PIECE then you have the awesome CVT transmission honda builds (read: junk) the fact you should not be jump starting the car with cables (due to the fact the things in the IPU are quite pricey and are easilly popped), and the fact that 90% of them are sooooo slow its hurts me to drive them. is it really worth it? no its not....the only hybrid from honda that dosn't have long term problems is the accord hybrid from what i have seen but since there are not many out there its hard to tell mine has 90k on it now and i bought it brand new off the showroom floor and hasn't had any issue aside from the ANC which i disabled since its a horrible system.

so in conclusion the crz would be an awesome car if it came with a K20z in it and no hybrid BS since...read above it adds weight and creates long term cost and dosn't do much for power at all

kthnxbye

nice, I love the looks. I had a 88 crx si before this 91 civic si I have currently and love the way the crz has updated the crx look. The one big minus is the lack luster performance, if these versions come out I'll be looking at getting one for sure
