Icon6 Getting more power from the 2010 Insight engine?

I have searched online and for the most part it seems a lot of the VTEC info is limited, misunderstood or just wrong. Knowing the 1.3l engine is similar to what was used in the Fit I have not had much luck finding parts for it either.

The way I found this website was using a search term that was suggest to not post on this forum of all places. So instead of saying it, Ill dance around it.

I believe the car has i-DSI + pause-cylinder i-VTEC. It does have 2 spark plugs per cylinder. Although regular fuel is ok I find 91 and 93 octane gives better performance in regards to how the cvt works and acceleration.

From what I can see on my scan gauge 2 the car likes to keep the engine at a 80% load before it adjusts the cvt ratio and 60% in sport mode. In other words higher octane results in less rpms and more torque and more timing according to the sg2. Lower octane, cheap tier 1 fuel, it revs and has negative timing.

It feels like VTEC starts at 3 grand. I understand the first gen Insight has a 2nd intake valve that is opened when it engages as it is a single VTEC setup. We have 2 valves per a cylinder on the newer one and dual VTEC.

My other car was a geo metro and my suv is a sidekick. Both I have installed cam gears to advance the timing 5-10 degrees. I loved the performance gained by lowering the power band and have been told I can also get different grind cams too.

Ultimately I am just trying to see if there is anything that can be done engine wise to gain 15-20 hp, drop the power band, etc short of attempting to boost the engine, replace it or trade the car.

In an idea situation I would like to get the cam reground so the VTEC lobes are more aggressive and leave the stock ones unmodified. This way I can still have fuel economy, then when I rev past 3 grand and VTEC engages it gives more.

Another idea was to take the car to get tuned in sport mode. This way I can retain economy in eco mode, then shift to Sport for more power, better afr, timing, etc for performance.

Thanks for reading and any thoughts, opinions or suggestions.

What about colder plugs or a chemical intercooler since higher octane helps?

The engine specs online I see are the following:
10.8 to 1 compression
SOHC 8 valve cylinder i-DSI + pause i-VTEC
Displacement: 1,339 cc
Bore x Stroke: 73.0 mm (2.9 in) 80.0 mm
Horsepower: 65 kW (88 PS; 87 hp) / 5,800 rpm
Torque: 121 Nm (89 lbft) / 4,500 rpm

Its an LDA motor and here are a few photos.

Maybe crz vs fit parts are another route? Maybe a head swap with a HCH?

A lot of people use the fit manifold for our CRZs. It seems to push better. It has proven a couple HP increases.

We share a lot with the Fit, infact I am running an 09 Fit progressive rear sway bar. Ill give that a look. I just want 15-20 hp tops.

You could also delete the 2nd cat. I'm not sure if you are into that, but a lot of Crz owners notice a big difference from it.

Consider it gone. I deleted the muffler and that helped a little.

I was just reading and Bisimoto does camshaft regrinds for the L13 motor which I guess is the motor that you have. Here is the link to the page http://bisimoto.com/store/index.php?...ort=20a&page=2
