The big plans include driving it about 400-500 miles a week. AS far as modifications (if you call it that)... Might get some winter wheels/tires for it, cheap sound deadening for the front floor boards, Light tint. Anything i'm missing?

It's just a basic car that gets good mpg. For some odd reason my kids absolutely love the car (maybe the hatchback reminds them of the ITR?)

-just ordered Virginia clean air tags for it so i can rawk the HOV lane solo

They're a good daily driver. I've covered over 27,000 miles on my 2010 EX.

So far so good for me. About to perform the third oil change. Replaced the engine air filter with a K&N unit at 20k.

Be sure to rotate the tires every oil change (~10,000mi) as they wear faster on the front.

It takes a while to get used to the Honda IMA system, however I average ~55-56mpg to and from work with an average speed around 50mph over 56 miles round trip. The key is to minimize force recharging and take advantage of any downhill sections to use regen braking.

Welcome

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you get the Insight for? This year I have a lot of driving ahead of me and I'm looking to get a great MPG commuter car at a decent price.

Thanks for the tips! The lowest I've been getting is around 42mpg. Most the time i'm doing around 50.

I bought it brand new (2010 model) under the honda winter event with 0.9% financing for 20500 including any extras. From my research the Honda Insight offers the best deal considering overall MPG and PRICE. It's only a few MPG off of a Prius and thousands less. It's a better drivers car (if you want to deem it that way) than the Prius. Only downfall is the backseat is for little people or children only. -Shawn

Thanks for the "Insight" on your pricing...sorry, I just had to do it.

I'm actually looking at a Gen 1 Insight tomorrow, hopefully I can get it for a great price since it's a 2000 and with 76k miles on it. The best part about it, it's a 5 speed!

with the current financing options -it sorta makes sense to buy a new one. I was going to purchase a used car but it would have ended up costing the same as a new one with the increased interest rate. good luck on your purchase!

This will be significantly cheaper than buying a new one like yours according to my research. My interest rate is a very nice 3.5% for 24 months for the loan I requested, so we shall see what tomorrow brings!

Thanks for the luck!

Re: Bought an Insight.. needed a reason to visit Honda-Tech again.

Sounds like a smart purchase. Lower payments for a lesser term is wise.

I use mine for work -they pay me a fairly large car allowance. I'm going to enjoy the lack of overall repairs and the maintenance costs are covered by the dealership for the next couple of years. I already have an older vehicle (2000 chevy conversion) in the driveway to maintain so something newer in the driveway will lesson the load.

Well, I finally got a Gen 1 2000 Insight, 5 speed MT with only 74k on the clock for only $6500. It should be paid off in 16 months, so I'll be set for a while.

I pick it up tomorrow after all the paperwork is done and I'll be sure to post up pics once I get it.

So far it's been getting 52 MPG easily in the city, so I'm hoping for about 60+ MPG on the freeway.:o

It's not bad, I'm getting over 50 MPG in the city driving without even trying! I can't wait to test it out on a long freeway drive, hopefully get around 60 to 65 MPG at either 65 or 70 MPH...:scared:

HYPERMILING TO THE MAX!!!

Re: Bought an Insight.. needed a reason to visit Honda-Tech again.

Nah, I'm not gonna hypermile. To hypermile correctly takes alot of patience and I just want to drive normally and get great mileage without really trying at all.

So far after all my maintenance that I've done (oil change, MTF change, KN drop in filter, Gumout fuel system cleaner) I'm averaging 53 to 55 MPG combined driving doing about 65 to 75 mph with A/C (Econ) on some of the time.

If you had an '04-'09 Prius, you'd be getting around 40mpg doing 80mph, but with the 2000-2006 M/T insight, you'd be getting around 53mpg..

So I haven't been on H-T for quite some time, and just decided to browse this forum because I recently got a new daily driver that I drive about 65 miles round trip daily for work.

2003 Insight (Gen 1)

Its nothing like the Type R, but it is still kind of sporty since it sits low to the ground. I am averaging 50-52 mpg here in the frigid Indiana winter.

Also the very first thing I replaced was the antenna, but with another oem antenna.
