Default Honda Logo Spark Plugs - Help Deciding...

Hi All,

So my 40,000 service is coming up and I want to do a few things myself to save money.

First thing I plan to do is the spark plugs, car is 12 years old and the hand book says to replace them at 40,000 miles.

I have found two spark plugs on a site I use but I have no idea what the advantages are...

Denso / Iridium Tough Spark Plug
NGK / OE spark plug

I read a guide on spark plugs on here, so I know how to install them and i have the tools. But it wasn't clear what the pros/cons or which one i should go for...

I'm not to bothered about power etc, as it's a 1.3 and low BHP anyway, just which are more reliable to use and i assume if the fuel burns better i get better MPG so i would choose the plug that gives me more MPG if there is a difference?

thanks in advance for you help guys, i know you've probably had plenty of posts about spark plugs etc... please help a novice

TL:DR version - NGK or DENSO?

edit: only difference i can see at the moment is the DENSO is three times more expensive....

Go with the original equipment NGK plugs. NGK and Denso are pretty interchangeable (and the OE does that a lot, in fact) but if the NGKs are what were in there, stick with that. Hondas are really picky about plugs. Also, even if the Iridium lasts longer, will it last three times longer? Unlikely.

Not all spark plugs are created equal. Some spark plugs can improve performance, while others offer long life. Some can make your lawnmower easier to start, while others resist fouling. For most of the applications you look up on this site, whether it's for a car, boat, lawnmower or generator, you will find the prices for a plug as low as $2 or as high as $12 (although we stock some hand made Japanese racing plugs which have a retail price of $100 per plug). So why spend $12 for a spark plug when a $2 plug will screw in and start your car?
