BAD GAS MILEAGE!!!!!!! READ!!!!

ok heres the thing my girlfriends got a sport Automatic trans fit
and lately she has been getting absolutly bad mileage.

shes does a lot of city driving and a lil highway and lately its been gettin like 100 miles to half a tank and about 170-180 till about when the gas light comes on

thats like 22mpg which is pretty crappy

anyone know why? or anyone having this problem

jspeczcturbo 01-05-2007 01:37 PM

besides auto's getting less then a 5spd, outside temp can effect it also, the colder it is, the denser the air will be, meaning more air into the motor, resulting in the ecu trying to compensate the difference by adding more fuel.

sharkytm 01-05-2007 01:41 PM

City driving can be the cause. I've been in stop and go for an hour, and burned 1/8 of a tank in about 20 miles... not good for fuel economy.

When your car is stopped at a red light, it's still using gas.

Maybe she accelerates too fast too.

USDMGD3! 01-08-2007 07:43 AM

As expected from the Auto Sports, your not the only one that gets worse mpg. There's a person that averages 18mpg https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif

OMG WTF 01-08-2007 10:24 AM

gas mileage can vary dramatically depending on driving habits.

also, how many miles are on her car, early on many vehicles dont get very good gas mileage at all till the engine begins to break in.

Re: BAD GAS MILEAGE!!!!!!! READ!!!! (1dumbassscreenname)

if she drives anything like my wife it`s full throttle from green to about 30 feet from a red lite then full brake , and she wonders why her brakes don`t last very ;long .

Nighthawk R18 01-11-2007 08:31 AM

damn 22mpg on a fit is terrible.

how are her driving habbits? does she constantly mash on the gas? i understand it may be tempting to squeeze some power out of the L15.

maybe it wasnt broken in properly, or maybe isnt even broken in at all. after the break in will you start to see close to advertised mpg

and if your doing 80 on the freeway, your not going to get advertised since the cars are tested according to speed limit which is usually 65mph

he must have a really heavy foot to get that less in a fit https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif
or his car is turbo https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

OP hasnt responded for quite sometime, probably forgot about this thread since hes usually in the 06 civic forums.

Yes my Fit have about 1900 miles on it. And also getting bad gas mileage, around 25.5 per gallon. After watching the gas needle fall at a alarming speed I decided to try to drive much slower and try to get the best mpg that I could. ended up not much better 27.5. Frustrated I pulled out my window sticker, the est. EPA. is 31city 38hwy. Small
print stated 26city. I stopped there knowing, they got me with the small print or the small details. Maybe a engine swap isn't that bad. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

try adding an intake. it will help your gas mileage by a little bit.

it isnt that easy or cheap either

Re: BAD GAS MILEAGE!!!!!!! READ!!!! (Nighthawk R18)

Yea, thanks on the intake idea. You are right on the high price. I like the fit, but it seems that if you are looking for some better than average performance, the price you might spend you could have landed in a much quicker car for less dollars out of your pocket, and still get in the neighborhood of 23mpg city without the complaints about the fuel issues. It seems that the fit is getting more then a few complaints about poor fuel numbers. My Suv stays within -2 mpg. On a bad day.

What small print are you referring to? If you are talking about where they give you the range of mpgs, that is not referring to the Fit specifically, its referring to cars in same segment as the Fit.

my b16 swapped eg si with 9lb flywheel , ctr cams , sk2 manifold , full portflow valvetrain , 4-1 header , no cat , and gsr ecu gets on average of 350 to 375 miles per tankfull (10.5 gallons) . man i almost sold this beauty for a FIT . http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

Re: BAD GAS MILEAGE!!!!!!! READ!!!! (DeDonDeRosa)

i got about 7,000 miles on my fit.....

i averaged about 31-32mpg on it for the first 2k miles or so. i added the spoon high flow filter (along with b pipe and axle back) and my mpg jumped to constant 34 mpg or better.....i shift at 3k (when i care about gas mileage) and sit at 70 mph on open highways (just above 3k on tach) i have a manual 5 speed.

when all i wanna do is hear the exhaust roar the whole tank....mashing the gas all the time....i still get 31 mpg.....

give the engine time to break in. im runnnig Castrol Syntec and car runs smoother along with teh breathing items i put on it.

Yes I feel your pain. I keep reading post here that seems to beleave We will get better mileage after break in. After spending my money for the car I think I can wait & see.

Re: BAD GAS MILEAGE!!!!!!! READ!!!! (Ben123136)

I have a Honda Fit Sport automatic that has 9100 miles on it. I have never gotten good gas mileage. In fact, I have only broken 30mpg on the highway ONE time. I drive 11 miles to work one way on flat roads in Northern California. I've heard it all and tried it all... nothing works and I'm not happy...

Re: BAD GAS MILEAGE!!!!!!! READ!!!! (fit0804)

dang thats crazy low mileage man.....we went to Vegas and broke 41 mpg.....65 the whole way around 3k. no cruise control either.

where is your tach at when your driving and shifting.....30 mpg highway seems extremely low.

tehmarvin 01-14-2007 06:42 PM

My Fit has about 3k miles on it. Mileage has varied for me too. around 26mpg as the worst, and about 36mpg on the highway as my highest. i normally try to shift below 3k or at 3k RPM if i'm driving conservatively. even if i constantly floor it and have fun, i will get roughly 27-28. I don't know if this happens to other people's Fits, but my fit at idling sounds really loud sometimes.
