most bang for the buck performance mods?
i have a 200 crv, 5 speed AWD. everything is currently stock. i am wondering what the best way to get a bit more power out of it without breaking the bank or going too deep. air intake? exhaust? light engine mods...? any suggestions greatly appreciated

Re: most bang for the buck performance mods?
My 3" catback made a difference on the *** dyno. I wouldnt recommend going that big though. I only went 3" because i know in the future im going to turbo it. A drop in k&n filter will make a bit of a difference, especially if your current filter is dirty. Other than a air filter/exhaust, theres no real mods for 'power' until you tear into the engine. Not that i can think of anyways.

DO IT ON ALL FOURS
Re: most bang for the buck performance mods?
You won't get much gains at all from almost anything like that. The B20's have bad head and intake manifold designs. You are better off leaving it stock or be preparing to spend a few grand. Unless of course you like the typical ricer header, intake, exhaust 75.354whp upgrade then go ahead and spend the money. I personally feel it would be better off saved for other potential future upgrades.
PS - Also, a lot has to do with where you live for what you can do for upgrades. California is just one example...

I agree CRVs should not be made into off-road trucks (because they suck at it) or dropped like a sports car (because they're not, though I do know they can handle with enough work).

Re: most bang for the buck performance mods?
^ why? i put a gsr head on my crv for around 200 bux.
i got a complete head for 180. gasket spray tack was 7 and the oil feed line was 15.
ideally you would want a tuned ecu but you can run fine with a gsr or type r ecu which you can find for around 100 bux.
just given the bump in compression ratio and better flowing intake manifold and cylinder ports will add some noticible power increases in the lower rpm's. keep in mind that this will net you some where around the 180-200 crank hp. which is not going to make your 3300lb crv a rocket ship by any means. but it will increase driveability.
BASIC MODS FOR STOCK MOTOR
the stock exhaust manifold is very restricting and adding a header will also free up some throttle response and torque. (header will need customizing if rt4wd)
replace the crv intake manifold with a non vtec integra
