High idle

High idle
2008 Honda CR-V. On cold start, engine idles around 1400 rpm for approx 3 min before idling down. Does not idle properly (around 750 rpm) until engine is at operating temp. Had it at dealership twice and they reset pcm and relearned the idle. Still has same problem.

Re: High idle
Sounds like a normal cold idle, not a problem at all. The engine is warming itself up.
Maybe someone knows more about the particulars of your engine, but to me, the mystery is why the dealership didn't just tell you that!

Re: High idle
This is not normal. I have been driving this car for 8 years. It would normally idle high for 30-40 secs then drop down to normal idle. The problem started when the car was in body shop getting painted and the battery died. The battery was replaced and car has been high idling on cold starts for several minutes ever since. This is not normal for any vehicle that I have ever driven.

Re: High idle
Every car I have driven and owned has done this to an extent. Of course idle speed varies by manufacturer and how warm/cold it is outside. For example my 3g TL idles around 1200-1300 for a few minutes when it is 40 or below and longer as it colder and for shorter times when it is warmer out., then idles down to the manufacturer set idle. My 99 civic is essentially the same.
Something else to keep in mind is the vehicle (assuming everything is functioning as it should) will idle up to the preset manufacturer warm up idle speed and will idle at that speed until it has reached the preset engine temp and as it warms up it will start to idle down to the manufacturer set idle.
