99 crv help needed

Default 99 crv help needed

So I've recently got my hands on a 99 crv,had 170k only driven to store and back,its at 185k and cel came on,took to a very well know shop and the valves were barley out of adjustment,one thing I learned is it's not always a burnt valve or the valves at all some times,it can be your injectors as well as timing, now here's my question, mine had a misfire on cylinder 2 and 4,mechanic cleaned injectors and now only cylinder 4 miss fires,did a comp test and was within spec, I ruled out bad ring cause if I did it would smoke, compression is in spec,new cap and rotor,new plugs and wires along with oil change,the cel is still on but will only flash when I'm at low speeds,higher speeds 30 to 40 the cel stays on and it runs better,is there a way to test an injector or maybe it could be a crank shaft sensor,any one have any ideas

did you check the o2 sensor?

No never thought of that,I would think that it would throw a code for it,but I do know that the secondary o2 sensor wires are twisted

If a fuel injector is suspected in causing a cylinder misfire... move the offending fuel injector from it's current cylinder to a neighboring cylinder and see if the problem moves with it. If so, you have found your problem. If not, consider the problem to be internal.

I'll try that in the morning, also forgot to mention that I had a leak down test on the valves and there fine

So I did the swap and it was a little better,I had a friend come by who builds civics and tegs for a living and he said it sounds like a bad distributor

So I've got a few updates,had the head pulled and valves checked and they are clean,normal wear,pulled cap and rotor,tip of rotor was burnt looking and the contacts had a thick pulled up on each one,took some sand paper and cleaned them up,reinstalled and runs a little better but now I'm smelling that good old sulfur smell and it kind of makes since as to why it shakes at idle and low speed plus the way it sounds gonna pull the cat tomorrow and look at the honey comb cause I've read on more then one forum and have seen the same thing,the honey comb can melt and either clog the cat or block it up half way causing a check engine light for a O2 sensor

I have a 99 honda crv 2wd lx,I had a misfire on cylinder 2 and 4,had the valves checked and they are fine,no burnt valves,compression across the board is good,no more miss fire but I smell what smells like bad gas and some times sulfur, what could cause this

If you're still on stock ECU, I'm going to make a guess that your cat is burnt out or a portion of it already burnt out, the O2s are reading the same readings pre and post cat, the ECU is trying to compensate for it, and you're getting a "bad gas" smell because the cat isn't filtering it out. If you have access to two widebands, connect one precat, and the other post cat, run the car and see if the readings are the same. If they are, then you're missing a cat.
