Default 1st Gen CR-V Drivers Side Water Leak

Hey all,

I have got this nasty water leak on the drivers side that absolutely soaks the rug, on top and underneath. I have done a quick search under the dash and underneath, and did not find anything obvious.

When it stops raining, I will be taking apart pretty much the entire dash to expose everything to find this leak, as water inside the car is not good .

Anybody else have this issue, or have an idea where to look for a leak? I have a hunch its a windshield seal, as it is the original, and has been an outside kept vehicle. It might also be body sealer between the seams on the A-pillar. I do not believe it is the cowl, as I have sealed that up after dealing with the passenger side water leak.

Thanks for the help!

Did you source this leak?

About a month ago I started to notice my floor being wet and I cannot source the leak. this is nothing like the passenger side which I fixed over a year ago.

I never see water dripping or can find a source but my floor mat is soaked after a good raining.

Hose down the windshield and see if it leaks

Yes I did track it down!

If you read my first post, it was exactly what I thought it was. The windshield seal was leaking around the top drivers side corner, running through the a pillar, rolling down inside the dash, then completing its journey in my footwell.

It was an easy fix. All you need to do is buy yourself a tube of Permatex windshield sealant.

The stuff comes out "runny" so it runs into all the little cracks you cannot see. It dries clear and solid in a few hours. I ran it in top corner (on both sides just to be safe) and about half way down the windshield. Felt like a total winner when I solved that leak, as it was really nasty. It would soak UNDER the carpet down to the sound/fire insulation.

Also check you antennae gasket. Over time they can get brittle and let in water. Infact, id replace that anyways if it looks any bit bad because the part is really cheap. Part number is 39154-S10-A01, cost about 4 bucks from your local Honda parts counter. Takes 5 minutes and I believe a T25 bit driver to replace.

Good luck finding your leak!

My CR-V needs a wash looking at these pictures now lol

Looks like you have rust behind the seals. I had the same issue with my civic and poured two tubes of sealant in there but still had a leak. I ended up pulling the entire windshield out to find a totally rotted out windshield frame. Had to wire brush 100% of it and weld in some new metal in some spots then POR15 the entire surface.

The windshield installers would not allow any bondo on the frame and would not install a windshield if more than 5-10% of the frame was rusted. Mine was rusted over about 80% of the frame and all of the glue holding the windshield in had lifted off the frame essentially leaving the glass only held in by the clips at the bottom and the moldings.
