Default 1998 CR-V rattling noise while decelerating - Manual transmission

Hi, Wondering if this happened to anyone. There is a rattling noise from what seems the front driver's side and only when I release the gas pedal in first and second gear.

The noise is similar to the ratchet noise produced by the gas cap and will only stops when I push on the clutch pedal or accelerate.

I must add that I removed the propeller shaft and rear differential and rear axles and now have a 2wd CR-V. Could it have an impact on the gears backlash?

Could it be related to this? : pg_0001

Dude be careful with removing the rear axles. The axle nut holds the wheel bearing and the studs that holds the tire on together as one piece. Without that axle nut they can separate....meaning your rear wheels can just fly off. You can just keep the outside axle boot of the axle in with the axle nut attached, this will keep it from separating while driving. Mine makes a noise as well but only at 2000 rpm, my engine has 295,XXX miles so I kinda expect it to make some funny noises.

Hi eh2_Trav, You are right, this must stay there. I read threads on few forums before making the modification and it was mentionned to keep this part of the axles.

Also judging by the Honda report, it seems like the issue they were stating was because of a clutch disc issue. Taking out the propeller and making it 2wd wouldn't cause that noise in my opinion but it could be just that, your clutch plate.
Is that report also specific to s2000's? it looks that way

I park in a downslope driveway with the front of the vehicule facing down. I can hear the same noise when backing up. I might have my son to back it up while I lie under the car, with blocks preventing the vehicule to run over me, to try to locate the origin of the noise.

Yes I think it could be the clutch plate too. If it's just anoying and not hurting anything I'll live with it.

Thank's for your replies.

Hi! Some say better late than never so here is the outcome about the origin of the rattle noise.

Around the same time I removed the rear drive shaft I had the catalytic converter replaced by a non OEM at a garage.

The Front Pipe flange was rusted-disintegrated on the passenger side so it was unusable. The garage mechanic had to put on a 'Clamp On' flange.

Time passed by and the front part (tube) of the catalytic converter rusted out, started to leak. I decided to repair it myself.

When I removed the bolts, springs, etc I noticed that the garage mechanic had installed something like a flange to act a a spacer which was in fact 'loose'. (Sorry I did not take a picture of this).

It was this loose flange that was making the rattle noise.

Once I purchased a pipe that I welded to the catalytic converter and re-installed everything there was no rattle noise anymore.
