Default 1997 CR-V SRS Cable Reel/Clock Spring

Of course I broke it. Still fuming that the FSM had me remove the steering wheel to replace the steering rack, as I never saw how the SRS bag and wheel were in any kind of way. Putting it back together I clearly did not center the reel, and when the wheel turned all the way right...SNAP. Now I have no horn, the SRS light is lit, and the cruise control is no go. Grrrr.

I think the right part is 77900-S10-A02 for this model CR-V. 4 speed auto, 4WD. Every parts diagram (lousy drawings) show only two wire connectors, but mine has three (airbag, horn, cruise). So want to be sure before I lay out another $140 for a part.

Is there a site vendor here that has lowest prices? Lowest on-line I have seen so far is $134.46.

Is this the one you saw?

Air Bag Clockspring Honda Fits 98 01 Honda CR V | eBay

That part number is listed as 77900-S10-A11, which according to a Honda parts place is not right for my '97. I need 77900-S10-A02, which I cannot find on eBay. I have found one on-line place I can get it for $123.94 + 15.72 shipping, putting me right under $140. Siiiiiggghhhhh. Going to check the you pull it yard and see if there is one there.

I have succesfully stripped the plastic sheath back and soldered two different cable reels back together. Both are still fine YEARS later. I'm not recommending it... but it's CERTAINLY doable.

I went to the nearby U Pull It yard and grabbed a cable reel off a '98 EX model. I don't think it will work as I think the connectors are slightly different, but I pulled the entire column wire harness and that reel with harness for only $22 so worth a shot. But, I mapped all the wires off this wrecker one so I know which is which. Worst case I can splice in the harness connectors if they do not fit. The only question is if the '98 model has a different revolution count on the spin. I seem to recall that the FSM for our '97 indicates to spin the reel to the far right, then back it off a turn or so. But this reel gives 5 revolutions, so center would be closer to 2 turns. We'll see.

Damn CRV that I pulled it from had been T-Boned bad on the driver side, so the driver door and that side passenger doors were bashed in and could not open. The glass was out from the driver side so I had to reach in to do the work, and a small shard of glass poking out immediately gouged my right forearm arm giving me a nice cut and blood run. Not to be outdone by that, minutes later when trying to get the air bag T30 torx screw out of the driver side the glass in the side view sliced a nice deep cut down my arm as I positioned it. Nice wide cut (not too deep) that I had to butterfly up tonight. After all the various work I have done on this kid's car I can say I have put plenty of blood, sweat and tears into it!

I am currently in the predicament where this just might have to be the case for me. As, i had to replace the rack and my son moved what i had holding the steering wheel in place and moved it and sure enough it was broken no horn or cruise control on my 97 cr v and having the same problem as this guy from the post need the one style clock spring no one else has and my only other option would be to take the whole column from another 1st gen in the salvage yard and put that in and re doing the wiring which seems to be more work than simply trying to fix this one 1st. ant tips on how you did it would be helpful i would imaginge that the wiring would want to go back into the most natural way being most likely in the mid rang of the coil
