Default 03 CRV---Why SRS light is ALWAYS on!!

It used to be off after 6 seconds but now this light is always ON. Checked with the dealer and I am told to change the whole unit.

Question is, what/where is wrong? I didn't do anything, and the car even had a 30K maintenance just a month ago.

Pls help. Thanks.

when the SRS light is ON CONSTANTLY is means there is a malfunction with the system. You can have HONDA pull the malfunction using a scanner and see what is causing the problem. My wifes 2002 RSX is having this issue and it is a problem with the drivers side seat belt latch. There are directions on the internet how to RESET the light yoruself but it will most likely return unless you diagnose what the problem actually is. Good luck.

'03 CRV here as well and SRS light has been on for about 2 months. I went to stealership to have it checked out. They reset the code and it comes right back on so they want to replace the brains of the system which is like $600. I don't understand how the law can force them to replace a bad seatbelt but not "THE BRAINS" of the whole SRS system. I can source the party much cheaper on my own and install it but the stealership said they need to install with and program each bag into or something crazy. Can anyone confirm whether or not that is true??

If I'm not mistaken they just have a general pgmfi code reader. You will need to get it from the dealership. It should say what the code is on your copy of the RO you got.

They didn't give me a copy of anything. They didn't even want to scan the code right there on the spot. They wanted me to make an appointment, pay them ~$90 and come back to have them diagnos the problem. I told them to **** off so the guy said he'd find someone to scan the code then so I knew what I was up against.

Coincidently, so does our '02 CRV-EX. (Almost 90k miles on it now)

Should be covered under the lifetime seatbelt warranty.

Same problem here. Going to get the codes checked at a friends's shop before I take it to Honda. Hopefully it's a cheap fix.

Icon2 SRS Light SAFETY QUESTION!

Same thing has happened to us as elsewhere in this thread - SRS Light always on. Took car in to dealership for unrelated recall work, and asked them to check out the light.

They said the code indicated a faulty sensor in the seatbelt latch. Good news, in the US there is a lifetime warranty on airbags and seatbelts - so no charge for the diagnostics & repairs.

Bad news: parts needed to make the repair are not on hand and have to be ordered.

SAFETY RELATED QUESTION: If we don't want to keep the car out of service until the part comes in - is it SAFE to drive the car now with the SRS light on and take it back to the shop later?

Dealer says airbag might not go off in a crash. Is this true in this situation?

They are recommending other unrelated less urgent service work while we leave the car there & wait for parts. Could they be exaggerating the risk associated with the SRS light being on in order to encourage us to go ahead and have other work done while the car is already there?

What are the REAL RISKS?

srs lights are usually on for drivers seat belt buckle and honda does cover that it is code 9-3 if you have code 7-2 you need srs unit

I'm going through this right now.....my wife took in her 04 CR-V to the stealership for 180K mile service without telling me 1st, SRS light was NEVER on once, as soon as she got it back from the dealership all of a sudden the SRS light is on constantly & they suggested her to go through her insurance to cover the repair. They stated it was because of a faulty sensor behind the bumper which didn't make sense as she rear ended someone @ 2 mph (foot off gas roll) and the light still never came on a week later until she brought it to them...

I own 2003 CRV. I am also having a problem with SRS indicator. Dealer said diagnostic code scan was 6-7. Any idea what that means. Was told I need to replace SRS unit for $625! Don't want to spend that on a 10 year old car. Help, any info would help esp what the 6-7 code really means. Thx!

2003 CRV. SRS light came on and stayed. Did this trick and the light doesn't stay on anymore (atleast for now).

Thanks for the information.
