Re: working on my $150 civic
thank you
for me its also about putting my favorite cars back on the road again for others to enjoy as well
this car has been sitting in a field for five years
I drove it homethe car pulls really hard and the trans is so tight there is no shaft play at all i cant even wiggle the stickshift, feels awesome to drive. But she smokes like a bitch
the guy told me it needs new piston rings but when i remove the oil cap it really blows hard out of it, could that mean that rings are not my problem?
any help would be appreciated since I am going to go into my garage tonight and pull the pistons, rods, rings and crankshaft out of an engine I have from an ef i wrecked as a teen, I have a good head I could put on if needed but gasket kits are kinda spendy
also that is my 94 sedan in the pics, I picked it up for 400 and replaced the broken windows and crushed door, I pounded out the rear quarter panel almost to flush and and going to do the bond and paint soon, i know its not an ef but its a honda civic lol

Man, those seats look nice. That looks exactly like the one I had in high school. I drove that car to hell and back. Places some trucks wouldn't go. I didn't even have a rear seat, removed it to make room for subs. The back window would flex 3-4 inches. lol. Ah, those were the days.

Re: working on my $150 civic
i just built my motor and got it running and it was smoking and shooting oil out of the exhaught. everyone told me i had bad piston rings. Nope. Go buy some seafoam from autozone. Dump it all in your oil. Go run the **** out of it. Come back and let it idle till all the smoking stops. Works every time. Let me know if you try it. and if it stops.

Just like doing a motor flush or any other detergent you don't want to drive hard on the engine.
Maybe idle for 15!30 min and then the oil should be broken down.
Drain it and it should run out like water. You don't want to drive on it or put any load on it.
Sounds to me like you had piston rings that were stuck.
You probably could have just ran the sea foam through your intake or fuel and had the same result.

seafoam eh?
never heard of it
what would it do?
also I have an extra engine in my garage its a d15 dual point, I am wondering if i can just drop the crankshaft with rods and pistons out the bottom or what?
if so it would make my life alot easier
let me know please asap thanks

Re: working on my $150 civic
oh yeah and about he bondo, its not for the ef its for the eg
the rear quarter panel is in pretty bad shape and i think bondo or glassing it is my only option besides cutting another quarter panel and welding it on, which i do not have the resources readily available to do

Re: working on my $150 civic
so i have read a lot about people thinking that their rings are bad when its really just bad valve seals. does anyone know how to check this?
I have a perfect d15 head that I had rebuilt ten years ago then crashed the car a week later, the engine has been sitting in my shop since then and i pulled the head off last month to put on a different car, then decided the car wasnt worth my time and had the junk man come get it. So the head is in great shape and since it only had about 100 miles since the rebuild the gasket came off clean, figured it might be ok to reuse
the cam and rockerarm assembly has some rust on it, so i will prob use the cam/rockerarms from the engine already in the car and swap the heads,
since none of the gasket stuck to the block and appears to have no blown spots is it ok to reuse?
I am trying to not spend alot of money here

Re: working on my $150 civic
so as requested here are the pictures of the rear seat installed
[IMG][/IMG]
the seats are not 60/40 or 50/50 though they are bolted together and fold down as one piece
