Will DOHC ZC head work on my D16A6 block?
I have a 91 Si w/d16a6 and a friend has a dohc ZC engine with a blown bottom end. He is willing to sell me the head which is in good condition for very cheap but I'm not sure if it will bolt onto my stock block. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Thanks...

I don't think there is anything different between d16 blocks and zc blocks but I'd hate to put it together and not notice a missing oil passage or something like that. Plus I'm wondering how much HP gain I will actually realize for the trouble...the stock engine still runs good with 148k!

Yep, that was what I wanted to do...why doesn't it work? I guess now that I think about it, if it worked people wouldn't do full ZC powertrain swaps...duh

What about if I rebuild the ZC engine and put the whole engine in my car, will it bolt in and bolt up to the stock Si tranny? Or would I need the whole ZC engine/trans swap...also, how much HP does a stock dohc ZC put out?

Yes, a DOHC Zc will bolt to your Si transmission... they are both D-series engines. A stock ZC puts out 130 hp.

Yes it will bolt right into your car no mods to have it fit or anything. You can use everything from your Si and bolt just the ZC block into your Si. You can use the Si tranny, mounts, ecu, wiring, everything. The only thing that is different is that the cylinder postion sensor is by the cam and not in the distributor like the Si so you would have to extend those wires to that sensor. I am not sure of the colors of the wires or anything but if you do a search I am sure you will find it unless someone else answers the question in this post. As for how much power I believe that the ZC's are like 130 HP to the flywheel but those numbers can be different depending on age and wear.
*EDIT* Damn I type slow

Are there any mounts or other things I will need to modify to make the ZC engine bolt in? I don't want to attempt this until I know what I'm getting myself into...it would be cool to have a ZC engine under my ZC-style carbon fiber hood!

It's a bolt in. You may have to shim to engine mount so it doesn't hit your hood. The only mod you'll have to do to an Si is extend a few wires.

I know everyone says the ZC head on sohc d-series block wont work but I know two very knowledgable people that say it CAN and HAS been done. Im always like "well.. everyone on H-T says its 100% impossible" and they say "yea well those people only say that because its all they've heard from other ppl b4 them.. has any of them actually tried and failed? no"
So have any of you guys that say you cant do this actually tried it? I mean ona these guys has been messing with hondas for 11yrs and has taught me alot of stuff.. so its hard to ignore what he says.

I have and no it does not work, there is one head bolt hole that doesn't line up between the head and block. Not worth the time and money to have a shop fill the hole and retap it.

If it was possible more people would have done it already. All the people that say it can be done please show us some proof, until then don't be so cocky and say people that say it can't be done are morons.
