Default Wich tie rod end for SIR ?

Hello,

I have a civic EE9 (EDM SIR) and my tie rod end are old. I want to buy a new set but i know it's not the same of the EF civic. The OEM honda parts are too expensive. Nobody know if another tie rod end of integra for example is the same ?
I know the SIR tie rod end was shorter than the normal EF, but i'm not sure ...
Please, help me !

are you taking into account the SiR has totally different knuckles?

The tie rod ends for the EDM EE8 (possibly EE9) and the USDM are NOT the same.

The USDM are a hair longer. I went through this unfortunate event myself and ordered a set of tie rod ends for a USDM crx and they didnt work. I had to go to my local honda dealer here in Belgium and get them.

EFSiR ? The difference is on the tie rod (inner) ?

Because on EDM version, the other civic 4th gen. have a differente tie rod ... A friend of me with an ED/EF7 (ZC motor) swap the original front suspension for the SIR version. And i have an alignement problem with the tie rod ED/EF and they are resolved with the SIR ...

Not that Ive ever found Tyson. That was my problem and exactly the reason I went straight to the dealer when I couldnt dial in my alignment.

I still have the packaging I believe from the tie rods I purchased. Id have to dig em out of the garage, but I could get them for you.

As for other items, id have to head down to the honda dealer for EE8 #'s.

sure, why not just record the part number for the tie rod for the sake of it.

I changed the knuckles on my 89 EDM 16v last summer with some from a 90 CRX VT (EDM SiR, EE8). For the swap i bought a pair of tie rod ends for a EE8 from the Honda dealer. I have a couple of pictures here comparing them , old dirty on top , new ones below :

As you can see the difference in lenght is very small , a couple of mm´s at most which was not enough. I still had to cut the inner rod and extend the threaded part about an inch to get the toe straight.

If i understand right:
- The 16v / EF tie rod end are shorter than the VT / SIR
- The 16v / EF tied rod inner are more long than the VT / SIR

If i'm right, if i put inner and outer tie rod off 16v / EF on my VT /SIR, it's ok ...

VT/SiR should be shorter from the information I have gathered on various forums , but in experience from buying them the difference is not enough to make a difference. So yes , the VT/SiR tie rod ends are shorter , but not much.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by gilou bilou &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">- The 16v / EF tied rod inner are more long than the VT / SIR</TD></TR></TABLE>
No Idea about this , never had a chance to check it out.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by gilou bilou &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">If i'm right, if i put inner and outer tie rod off 16v / EF on my VT /SIR, it's ok ...</TD></TR></TABLE>

Don´t know about that solution. But it´ll work just fine to cut off the stock inner rod an inch or so and increase the threaded part , then you can just use stock tie rod ends.

It wont work. The difference is too great for it to work properly.

Quality and price never walks hand on hand.

Just get the oem if you want good and best fitting. Go aftermarket if you want "save" few bucks.

Exactly. On items such as these, OEM should be your only choice.

OEM should not be....it just is.

I've searched high and low for replacements. You'll ONLY get them at the dealership.
Civic EX ends won't work either.

Don't bother fiddling around with different ends. You'll end up with not enough threads left to adjust, and you're gonna break things.

Get new OEM ones. You'll sleep better.

I'm very interesting by the reference ...
I'm sure it's possible to find the tie rod of the SIR in other car ! I dont think honda make a special tie rod for only the SIR ... Integra 90/91 maybe .... Or something like that ...
In my country the OEM honda tie rod end cost 180$ each .... That's why i want to find an other solution ...

It can be diffrent tie rod, because the brakes are diffrent too. Comparing to the VT (EDM Sir) and "standard" 1.6i-16 (w/ Dohc 1.6).

The VT is what I have, and I can assure you, they are different from USDM fronts.

The knuckle and steering arm themselves are different. It has nothing to do with the brakes.
