Default drilling holes for seatbelt harness (CRX)

It appears as though I'm going to have to drill holes into the floorboard to mount my seatbelt harness. Is there anything underneath the car I should be watchful of when Im drilling holes into the floor? If so, where should I NOT drill into the car? Its a 4 point harness. Im pretty sure the gas tank is far enough back so that I don't really have to worry about it, but by all means, please correct me if Im wrong. Thanks a lot.

If you are intending to put a four point harness in a car that does not have a rollcage you are looking for some serious trouble. The mounting locations of the shoulder harness must be above your shoulder height or in an accident you will compress your spine becasue the harness will pull down on you twoards the floor, not just back.

I was thinking of making a bracket to connect to my rear strut bar for my harness. Where were you going to mount the lap belt?

What's the point of even having a harness if you're going to do something that dangerous?

so harnesses can only be used with roll cages/bars?

Harnesses should only be used with roll cages/bars. You can use them without, but I certainly wouldn't take the risk.

The only way I'd use harness without a rollbar would be for strictly autocross use, and nothing else.

If your car is an 88, you're in luck. You can use both OEM seatbelt mounting points for the lap belt. If you have an 89-91, you can still use the center OEM mount but you will have to drill a new mount for the outer side. It's easy to check below your floor for things like fuel lines, brake lines, etc and I would suggest you look carefully. Also, make sure you use a backup plate and washers for all new mounting points.

On a side note, anyone mounting a harness to a strut tower bar might as well use zip ties for everything else. None of it will hold.

actually the mounting point for the shoulder harness should be slightly below the shoulder level,

check under the rear compartments (where the rear seat would go), there should be some threaded holes already there, where the rear seatbelts would bolt up, thats where they should go,

bu if you are gonna drill through the floor, make sure you put a plate to act as a big washer, on the outside otherwise you will just pull the bolts through in an
accident,

do not mount the harness to the rear strut bar, it will bend, the lap belts should go where your stock lap belt goes

Ok, I just removed the compartment from beind the seats to look for the threaded mounting holes which would accompany back seats. All I saw were a few holes with cream colred plastic threads. Nothing I'd want to mound the rear part of the harness to. There must be some kind of threaded hole back there though, for where the seat belts would go. Are the holes your talking about somewhere near the fuel pump, or are they further back?

you're gonna have to look farther back. Look at the back area and imagine a seat being there and imagine where the seat belts would be.

I just posted this in roadrace without response. I'm glad I found this post.

I have an additional question. If you mount the shoulder belt where the rear seat belt should have been, is that too low?
