On What Hole Do I Put The Oil In

On what hole do i put the oil in the transmission? and how many bottles?

Re: On What Hole Do I Put The Oil In (tigueremalo)

The top hole. the bottom one is the drain plug.

zccr-xsi 05-31-2006 05:34 PM

backup light switch. and its takes almost 3 quarts.lossen the filler bolt on the tranny and pour it in the backup swtich holes till it trickles out the filler hole then cap it off and put switch back in.

Re: (vteckillenzc)

it just takes 1.5 quarts , then you gotta launch it a couple times and bang gears for about 10 minutes until the new tranny oil gets absorbed.

Got_soy 05-31-2006 05:37 PM

Re: (vteckillenzc)

when i first saw the title i thought it was for engine oil. 17mm bolt on the passenger side of the tranny, fill untill it comes out

Voodooboy520 05-31-2006 05:48 PM

You may want to check your vtec oil too. That is a common cause of failure on older hondas.

tigueremalo 05-31-2006 05:49 PM

Re: (Got_soy)

can i use engine oil?

Voodooboy520 05-31-2006 05:53 PM

Its better to use Honda stuff - go there and ask for it, they'll know what your talking about.

Re: (tigueremalo)

You want to put engine oil in your tranny? WTF is wrong with you. Have you ever done any kind of maintenance on a vehicle. If I were you I would invest in a manual for your car.

10W-30 motor oil in the tranny is just fine man. chillax.

Relax man. 10W-30 in Honda trannies is mint

You sir, need to read the manual again

For ease I pull the backup switch with a 19mm wrench and just drip in 1.5 quarts

Alot simpler than jacking up the car, wheel off, taking out the top left fill bolt, making a big tube from the bottle to the tranny etc etc

Thats just me

pinecone 05-31-2006 08:42 PM

Re: (W O T)

Hmm ok, then why make tranny fluid when all you have to use is regular engine oil. And I think my manuals say to put honda transmission fluid in there, not 10w30 motor oil.

DC5Tuner 05-31-2006 08:54 PM

Re: (pinecone)

It says in the helms you need to replace the washer when you remove the sensor. Is it the same washer as the drain bolt crush washer?

I might just fill it from that backup switch as well...much easier to get at.

cr-x-91 05-31-2006 09:48 PM

only for automatic tranns buddy. you can and should use motor oil, but i also recomend the synchromesh

W O T 05-31-2006 09:51 PM

Re: (DC5Tuner)

I personally hit mine with a little sand paper because it was a tad rusty, its just there to stop leaking, just make sure its clean

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by pinecone &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Hmm ok, then why make tranny fluid when all you have to use is regular engine oil. Because its "proper" to use transmissions fluid, Im sure thats all a honda dealership will use

Go to any Mister Transmission/Midas etc etc and youll get the choice of what you want to run

They didnt even ask me for my ford truck, they know that it would work better with gear oil and not tranny fluid so they used it.

Not everything is set in stone man

Re: On What Hole Do I Put The Oil In (tigueremalo)

I had really good luck once with full synthetic 10-30. Tranny had a 3rd gear problem and with this stuff it seemed to shift pretty damn good. But I too have also used synchromesh. I heard along time ago that Penzoil was going to come out with some stuff specially for Honda's...Dunno if that ever happened..

Re: On What Hole Do I Put The Oil In (88YellowRexSi)

Synchromesh is amazing for shity trannies, but not worth the money to me for something that doesnt have a problem

Huh? A B-series takes a little over 2 quarts and a D-series takes a little less than 2 quarts.

Better read again, because Honda specifies both. Before they came out with Honda MTF, 10W-30 engine oil was the norm.

You should make sure you know what you are talking about before you lash out at someone. Dont you feel really stupid now?? BTW you sure can use engine oil.
