so my bro went to buy a used jdm b16 trans off this kid. the sticker on the front said a1-xxxxxx. i told him i dont know what it is but its not a jdm b16. is it? does anyone know what trans this is? and what car it came from? thanks

a1 tranny is from a B18a USDM vehicle and isn't JDM...!!!

c i knew it. u shoulda heard my bro's temper tantrum. talkin about, i dont know what im talking about and i was out of line when i told the kid to go fly a kite with his a1 transmission as it wasnt a jdm b16. i said i didnt know what it was but its not a jdm b16 trans i said. im soooo glad i was right. u should see my bro appoligizing now that he knows he almost got beat. thanks alot for the info. and i did search but the tranny calculator in the faqs didnt show that trans number. thanks again

An A1 is actually one of the more desireable & valuable cable-clutch B-series transmissions out there. It comes from certain USDM '90-91 Integras with the B18A1 engine, but has the short 4.400:1 final drive like the JDM J1 and short-geared S1 transmissions for B16A engines.

oh well. the trans still didnt match the kids story of it being jdm so how could i trust him that it didnt grind or pop-out. at least now i know.

Yeah the A1 tends to get ignored for some reason on most charts. I just picked up one today actually, and will verify the ratios.

I also recommend that anyone who buys a transmission, learns how to open one up, and inspect it properly. This way someone can't pull the wool over your eyes when you can open it up and see if there are any issues.

I have a USDM Integra S1 that came with a 4.4 FD. It is not unique to the A1! But the gearing is still LS, which is tooooo looonnnggg for a B16. I would rather have B16 gearing with a 4.266 (standard LS) FD than an LS tranny with a 4.4 FD!

i have a tranny that says s1 on the sticker but has a1 stamped on the case. any one know about this tranny.
